California Coast

Are you looking for a timeshare in particular, or just ideas of where to stay?

Are you planning on taking the scenic coastal route along Highway 1? If so I highly recommend you stop in Cambria and do a tour of Hearst Castle. Monterey to Cambria is a little over 3 hours, with no stops. Cambria to Los Angeles is about 5 1/2 hours on Highway 101, a bit quicker if you go over to 5, but not nearly as pretty.

If you take Highway 101, San Luis Obispo or Pismo Beach are about half way. I would still suggest a side trip to Hearst Castle. Monterey to San Luis Obispo is a little over 2 hours, and San Luis Obispo to Los Angeles is 4 hours on 5 on and 5 1/2 hours on 101.

All of these times are per Google Maps and of course depend on traffic.

If you do go down 101 a stop in Solvang is worthwhile if you have the time.

Last year we went from Monterrey to San Diego. The approximate half-way point was Solvang or Buellton. If you are looking to spend just a night, there are a number of motels that will meet your needs. We stayed at the Pea soup Anderson's Inn. It was pretty basic but was good enough and we got a free breakfast.

By stopping half-way, you can enjoy the scenery along hwy 1 and 101.

If you are looking to stay several days, there aren't a lot of timeshares in the area - - perhaps Harbortown Point in Ventura.

There is a Marriott Courtyard in San Luis Obispo. From SLO you can get to Cambria to see Hearst Castle. It's a little under an hour drive.

There are wineries in the area. I haven't been to any of them, but if you're into wine that could be interesting.

Pismo Beach is about 20 minutes from SLO and a fun little town to knock around in.

Hey Jim, there is a Marriott Courtyard in SLO. ;)

Although I'd stay at the Madonna Inn, just for the novelty.
 
There are several Worldmark along the way (Marina, Pismo Beach and Solvang). If you want to go these couple of months there won't be any, although you may land something at Solvang - I have not checked. These resorts (except Solvang) are fully booked 13 months out in spring, summer and fall. WM owners should be able to check for you.

Never mind, re-read it, you are looking for Marriott.
 
The scenary driving the coast is beautiful, but its also pretty desolate. I agree with above and I would drive from Monterey to Hearst Castle (cambria), about 2.5 hours. Then spend about 2-3 hours at Hearst Castle, then drive to Santa Barbara, 2 more hours. If Hearst Castle doesn't appeal at least drive by on the highway and look up on the hills to see it. Santa Barbara is a beautiful place to stay. You could cut an hour off the last leg if you stay in San Luis Obispo. But I would go to Santa Barbara if you could make it...NCV is about 3 hours from Santa Barbara the next day. Santa Barbara probably has a few Marriotts to choose from. A lot depends on how much time you want to spend.

Santa Barbara is close to the halfway point. It is closer to NCV. But with traffic through LA being what it is, perhaps it is close to the halfway point in terms of time. Take a look on the map and see what you think.

For what, and why? You can probably contact one of the moderators and ask but I don't think you can advertise here. And it's for Madonna estate winery that doesn't have anything to do with this thread.
 
We stayed at the Marriott courtyard in San Luis Obispo a few years ago when visiting Hearst Castle and other attractions in that area. For a courtyard it was a great hotel, helpful staff, nice restaurant with bar (may be different now) and hotel was fairly busy /popular over the long weekend we were there.
 
I live in Ventura. Great place to live on the beach, but not much to do.

Pismo would be a nice place to stay for a night. I'd go into SLO to grab lunch at Firestone if nothing else, but it is a nice college town.

There isn't too much to see or do in Santa Barbara either, but you can easily make a day out of enjoying the beach and walking around the shops on State Street.
