We just returned from an idyllic vacation at Hacienda del Mar in Cabo. The facility was outstanding and the hospitality was gracious. However, there was a sobering human tragedy when we were there. Two people lost their lives in the pounding ocean when we were there. This event occurred on the same morning. A man was toppled by the surf in knee deep waterand could not overcome the undertow and surf. Four bystanders jumped into the rough waters to save his life. Three of them returned, but one gentleman lost his life in this attempt. There are numerous warnings regarding the undertow and "rogue" waves in Cabo San Lucas. Please do not take these warnings lightly My husband and myself were in the ocean water at brief moments during our stay.I have thought of these families' grief constantly since I have returned home.
Be safe...enjoy each moment...

There is an article about such a situation here. That's awful and quite an eye opener. We swim at that beach. Was the surf unusually rough from a storm?

Yes, the ocean tide and surf were rougher that morning than during most of the week. We have stayed at this facility before and it is outstanding. The red flags are always posted, but people were swimming intermittently throughout the week.(including ourselves) I believe that both of the gentlemen were fishing at the ocean's edge that morning. I hesitated to post anything on TUG regarding this tragedy, but believe that people should be acutely aware of the power of the oceans' capability at any time.
I know this is a tried and true "cliche", but witnessing this has brought a new understanding of this. Again, my prayers go to the families of these individuals.
