My wife and I are going to Cabo soon for a week and are staying at the Playa Grande. This will be our first time in the city. What are the Must Do and Must See things there?

Thanks in advance! -Mike

Just my opinion, having been only once and planning a return.

Sedate: San Jose del Cabo has a great town square and may have the Thurs night Gallery Walk when you are there.

Active: We made the trek to Cabo Pulmo to snorkel the largest living coral reef in North America and I would do it again.

Congrats - Playa Grande is a great choice for your first trip to Cabo! You are a short walk from the marina and downtown, and you're on a beautiful semi-private beach (no vendors to disturb you as you stroll along Solmar Beach). No swimming onsite, though - the Pacific is too wild there. Take a short water taxi ride over to Medano Beach for ocean swimming.

Must dos? It all depends what you like. We go several times a year (for weeks at a time) to get away from hectic work schedules, so we don't do a lot of "activities" anymore. I'd highly recommend you go over to TripAdvisor's Los Cabos forum. There's a great group of people who will offer all sorts of advice!

Take a sunset cruise--I liked the Caborey. When we did it last, there was an option of a cocktail/snack cruise or a full dinner cruise at the same time. There are other boats that do cruises, too, and all of them take you near the Arch so that you can see the sealions and the rock formations up close.

Eat at Senor Sweets on the marina near the marina entrance to the mall.

It kind of depends on what your interests are. You can do nothing but relax by the pool & decide where you want to eat for the evening meal. Or you can play golf, go parasailing, swim with the dolphins at Cabo Dolphins, ride jetskis, walk along Medano Beach, ride ATV's, go ziplining, and go to Todos Santos.

I believe you are incorrect. The largest is great barrier in australia, the second largest (which happens to be in North America), is closer to cozumel.

The Belize Barrier Reef - second largest in the world, stretching from southern Quintana Roo, Mexico along the coast of Belize to the Bay Islands of Honduras.

Also, the Florida Keys Reef Tract is the only LIVING coral barrier reef in North America, this is also the third largest barrier reef in the world.

"The reef runs roughly 221 miles down the south-eastern coast of Florida, paralleling the Florida Keys from Key Biscayne off Miami down to the Dry Tortugas, 70 miles west of Key West, from 1 mile to 8 miles offshore."

Please correct me if I am mistaken, thank you.

If you have a car there are many things you can do. If not your a bit limited to Cabo, which isn't bad at all.

The fishing is fantastic in Cabo. The nightlife is great in Cabo and your walking distance to most of it.

You need a car to go to Cabo Pulmo. You need a car to go to Todos Santos and Cerritoes.

You can get to some of these places by taking a tour.

Wine and Jazz cruise

on the Tropicat or dinner cruise on Sunrider is really nice and you can get discount coupons at www.loscabosguide.com

Also have dinner at Cascadas Grill at the Club Cascadas, toes in the sand, beer in your hand, life is good.

I'm not gonna look it up, just going from research I did in 2008. My memory could be faulty.

Bottom line is, it's rare, I loved it, and would go again.

World class fishing. But if you plan to go, go down to the marina and arrange for your own trip. If you let Playa Grande arrange it the same trip will cost more. BTW, I hope you'll like the Playa Grande as much as my husband and I did. Great walking beach and nice pool.:hi:

I have been reading these posts with great interest. We will be in Cabo for only 7 short hours on a cruise stop next May and wonder if your suggestions would be different for me? We plan to go to Cabo for a longer land based vacation some day, but for now, we only have the 7 hour stop. Any advice is appreciated!

I would recomend renting a vechile from All Over Baja car rental if your comfortable driving in Mexico and drive arround and explore. This car rental store includes all the insurance and is very close to where the tenders dock.

I would include Cerritoes Beach Club for lunch. Great Fish Tacos.

Cabo is an easy place to drive with just a few things in a few places that you would need to know, such as the turn left you turn right onto a frontage road and proceed to the left turn light.

Cerritoes is about 23 or so miles away from Cabo.

Or, you could go to the flea market and have lunch in the Marina, which is pretty much like any other flea market and marina.

Since you plan to return to the area, I think I'd just explore the marina & downtown area on foot and spend time on Medano Beach. There are a lot of water activities available on the beach and several places to sit and watch all the people. There are also a lot of places to eat and lots of shops in and around the mall and marina.

You could check out all the resorts along the beach to see where you might want to stay next time you come. Walking on the beach from where you get off the tenders you'll come to Cabo Villas, Casa Dorado on Medano Beach, the ME Hotel, Pueblo Bonito Blanco, Pueblo Bonito Rose, & Cascadas. If you walk further on the beach past an open area, you'll come to Villa del Arco and Villa Palmar.

On the other side of the marina from where you'll get off the tenders and on the Pacific side are Playa Grande, Solmar, and Finisterra. If you enjoy walking, you'll have plenty to explore.

I also recommend San Jose del Cabo. It is entirely different from Cabo -- less "touristy". It is an easy drive from Cabo, and if you decide not to rent a car, you can take the bus.
