We will be in Cabo San Lucas 1-27 -07 to 2-3-07 we would like to go on a Whale-watching tour … any recommendations on a good tour company would help.

My favorite whale watching tour was out of La Paz, not Cabo. If you're willing to overnight one night in La Paz you can get a full day tour up the the lagoons where the gray whales give birth every winter. It's really worth the wasting of one night in your t/s in Cabo, imo.

Of course if you want to stick with Cabo tours, there are many boats and zodiacs that will take you out onto open waters where you'll see whales in the distance. I don't have a specific recommendation on those, the boats are mostly booze cruises, the zodiacs are bumpy but more likely to see whales closer up. But it's not akin to experiencing the gray whales in the lagoons after their migration...that is truly magical.

We just have happy hour at the hotel and pretend we saw the whales. Actually we have seen them from the beach and pool area at our hotel (Solmar)

We took our kids whale watching in Cabo early January and we had a great time with Ocean riders. They have really fast boats and that is crucial because we were able come close to whales after spotting them, before the rest of whale-watching ships can even change direction.

We came quite close to many humpback whales(they were mostly males waiting for females to arrive) and were able to great good pictures with a standard P & S camera.

I am sure La Paz might be better, but in Cabo I would strongly recommend Ocean Riders over others(also pick the 10:30 AM trip for most sightings).

The other thing that concerned us was whether these tours were bothering the whales; but most of the ships kept a safe distance and once the whales went under it took another 7-10 min before they resurfaced and it is hard to know which direction they would re-surface anyway.
