Well, thanks to all the good advice here I finally took the plunge and bought a Hyatt timeshare!
I can't wait to finally get to use it but the problem I see is that by the time I pass right of first refusal (if I do) and the deed gets recorded etc., my deeded week which is in early February will have either passed or will be around the corner. So what happens then? will I lose out for 2009? will I still be able to exchange for something for later on in the year?
If I deposit my 2010 week, can I use it in 2009?

Thanks!

find out what the statusof 2009 week is

has seller deposited it? Do you have the right to use it? Since the week is in Feb., there is a good chance that the seller already made a reservation and/or deposited the week with II.
Who gets the right to the next week is usually clearly spelled out in sales info and certainly in purchase contract--usually the person with right to use pays that years maintenance fees. Assuming you get the right to use the week, you need to ask seller, or seller's broker, to have a reservation made in your name with Hyatt for the week.

Thanks Elaine! I have to pay the maintenance so I will find out if he can make a reservation for me. Is there a way to log onto II as a 'guest' and see what exchanges can be made?

No, you need to be a member and have the resort verify your unit as available before using your account.
