I'm in Spain at Marriott Playa Andaluza. Is there ANY reason to buy here rather than on the phone when I return to the USA?
I've been offered sales at various locations.

The only reason at all to buy direct from Marriott versus buying a resale is tha ability to trade in your week for Marriott reward points or if the incentive package of points is so large that it makes up some of the difference. The points incentive would probably need to be around 500,000 for it even to be considered as close to worth it.

Otherwise you can buy just about any unit in any location resale for about half of what Marriott is charging.

Buying at a Marriott resort vs buying from corporate

Say I've decided to buy from Marriott. Is there any compelling reason to buy while I'm on vacation rather than calling the Marriott main office when we return home any buying that way?

Occasionally, the deal you can get from Marriott telesales is a bit different from the onsite deal offered. The price will be the same, but the incentives or negotiated way to pay for it and get additional points might differ slightly.

The different deal, if there is one, could be better or worse. No way to tell without making that call.

A lot of people who buy while on vacation without having looked into it regret that decision; you can always buy directly. Take some time to research, see what the resale market is and then determine for yourself if you're better off buying direct or a resale.

A few months ago I was in a similar situation, but everyone's advice was to read and learn. I am glad I did- the more I learnt, the less atractive buying from MVCI became and I am looking forward to not only enjoying my timeshare, but to spending the thousands of dollars I saved buying resale :).

If you spend your vacation analyzing and worrying about what to do, you'll have wasted a good part of your vacation. The opportunity to buy will always be there when you get home. Enjoy your trip!

I have found that telesales can usually do better. Never seen where they can't at least match. Call telesales to match, while you are there, and ask for Marriott money to close the deal.

Regards.
Joe

Marriott Money = Marriott Cheques, which can be used as cash for purchases, stays, dining, etc. at Marriott hotels and resorts. There are some restrictions on use, depending on the particular certificates.
