Hi everyone,

my wife and I attended a presentation at the orange lake resort and we ended up buying but when we got back home we panicked and rescinded the offer. But we really enjoyed the place and would like to buy resale. what are the downfalls of buying resale vs buying from the resort directly (other than money)

they told us that we could get cheap flights if we called the member number and free car rentals is this true? any other information that I should know?

I personally wouldn't buy in Orlando because it's too cheap and easy to trade into even the most popular resorts.

Resale Marriott is preferable (for me and a lot of us here on TUG) over Orange Lake. I like the exchange company of II much better than RCI, exchanges are cheaper and Marriott is a great product.

You may have seen the best Orange Lake has to offer during a presentation, but we have experienced pretty terrible accommodations at Orange Lake. Granted, this was many years ago, but broken tiles in the entry, broken handle on the oven (just hanging down when we arrived), no hair dryer in the unit (had to ask for one and then had to take it to the office at the end of our stay), and they shut down the elevators the day of checkout. Rick had to carry the luggage down 3 flights of stairs.

Horrible experience. Our one and only. I laughed when they called to see if we wanted to go on a presentation.

Orange Lake used to be 1-4 but now it’s not. There are many weeks for sale or rent in Marketplace. I suggest you look there. We owned at Orange Lake bought resale, a points week, and a studio in the Clubhose all but the points week we got resale. The studio was upgraded to points in two bedroom.
We gave away all of them a few years ago. If you buy resale the week returns to a fixed week.

While I like RCI unlike @rickandcindy23 - I don't think Holiday Inn is a good resale purchase. Look on their forum, and if you don't jump through a lot of hoops you can't really use the resale Holiday Inn Vacation Club. I do agree that Orlando isn't a great place to buy, you can always trade there. What I'd recommend doing is checking out all the systems, and probably renting a few to see which one might work best for you.p

I agree with everyone here. I would add if you loved orange lake and wanted to be able to reserve River Island and have flexibility to do stays during high demand periods or for fewer then 7 days then you could look at a Holiday Inn Club resale deed that stayed points upon transfer. Wich is either at South Beach, Gatlinburg, or Lake Geneva. But if you don't care about staying at River Island specifically and are flexible I would maybe look at a Hilton/Wyndham deed which trades into RCI. Definitely take your time and go to some more resorts and research different systems.
