hi all,

Is there some method to buy or rent points for one year, say if I have 7,000 and need 8,400 for a weeks reservation. I have an EOY, so borrowing is not an option.

Thanks,
Greg

It ain't easy.
Commonly, a HGVC member reserves a week and offers that week for rent or exchange.

To add time to your booking, another HGVC member would have to make a reservation for that part of your stay and request a guest certificate for that portion. You may need to check-out and -in again, you may need to pay the reservation and GC fee, plus whatever rent was agreed upon.

It used to be that both members can get on the phone with HGVC, one member (X) uses his/her points to make a reservation for the other member (Y) (in other members account), Y than cancels that reservation and now points are in Y account. Effectively, you could transfer points between members, as long as points were not rescued. HGVC now closed that loophole.

The only options I can think of at the moment are:
(1) stay 6 nts instead of 7 nts (two wknd nts instead of three wknd ntd)
(2) plan ahead for a combination bank & borrow (For Example: if you own an even EOY, you could arrange for a trip in 2013 by banking 2012 into 2013 and borrowing from 2014 for your 2013 reservation)
(3) Depending on the resort & unit you're trying to reserve, it might be available via a RCI reservation which requires less HGVC point.

Good Luck :)
