Buying at WM property? Can you convert into the Club?

Hi,

I see that the deals are better if you buy a week at a WM property instead of buying an allotment of points. Does anyone know if you convert your week into a Club membership and get points?

Thanks

Simple answer, "No."

However, if a Worldmark owner buys an interval at Eagle Crest, Schooner's Landing or one of the few properties that sells weeks/fractionals, they may exchange them back through Worldmark for trade credits (similar to one-time-use points). FWIW, one could do this reverse exchange with most RCI/II properties. Of course, these programs are subject to change and revision; see: TERRIBLE news for Eagle Crest Owners who trade into Worldmark

Plus you would need to purchase a minimum point membership to deposit them into 5000 points . . . .

RedDog,

You should consider buying a small (6,000 credits) package for Worldmark and then using it as a trading property -- you'll be amazed at what you get trade into, and you can go rent the credits you need (4,000 - 10,000) for 5.5 - 6 cents per credit from another WM owner.

Another trick is to deposit 4,000 (Blue Studio) credits into II and see what that can you get you -- much more than you would think. I just came back from a 2BR at Marriott Shadow Ridge (granted, May -- so Gold season), but it's a beautiful property and worth much more than 4,000 credits.

Good luck with your efforts....

When you said "a week at a WM property", did you mean those auctions on ebay that are for WM but have a location attached to them?

If yes:
There is no such thing as buying WM at a particular location. When you buy WM, it's all points. The points may be used at any WM locations. All WM owners have the same rights. There is no "home resort" in WM. WM is pure points.

The reason that they appear on ebay that way is because of a ebay requirement that all timeshare auctions must have a location attached to it. If the listing is for points only, ebay will pull it. Smart WM sellers have learned to attach a location to all WM point sales.

If you look at the weeks with WM locations, in the details you may see that the points may be used at any location.

***************************************
If on the other hand you are referring to ads for weeks at a location, most of the prices of which are in the hundreds of dollars to a thousand (or a little over) instead of four or five or six thousands (per week): the hundreds of dollars ones are most likely one-time use weeks (rentals), whereas the thousands of dollar ones are most likely permanent intervals by which you get a week every year (purchases).

****************************************
In summary, there should no significant price difference if you are comparing apples to apples, other than the normal price difference between different sellers and at different times. WM property, or not, is not a factor.

Or, it may be what you are seeing is the price difference between ebay and other venues. All ebay listings have a location attached. Other venues don't.

The resorts that are deeded and can convert to WMPoints IF you are already a WM point holder,do seem to trade a little lower on a per point basis, the maintenance fees and conversion charges are higher though.

The continuation and costs are alaways subject to the whims of the mis-management comany

Buy the least amount of points possible 5K and ret what you need on the open market

WM shares some resorts with deeded resorts, e.g. at Eagle Crest, Schooner Landing, but the portion that is deeded is not WM, and the portion that is WM is not deeded. There are also fractionals ("Residence Clubs") at SouthShore, Depoe Bay, and Seaside that are deeded, and share resorts with WM, but again, the portions that are deeded are not WMs - they are Residence Clubs by Wyndham. That may not be an important distinction now, but could be some time in the future (and legally is).

WM also shares other resorts with other timeshare brands such as Wyndham Vacation Resorts, Vacation International, and Wyndahm Asia Pacific.

Keep in mind that 5K accounts are harder to find than 6k accounts.

WM is a pure point TS system and they do not sell deeded weeks at a single WM resort (with a few very special exceptions). The only way to buy WM is to buy a WM package of credits.
BUT there are a handful of WM resorts which also have non WM rooms. Those rooms can be bought as a deeded week, BUT can not be used in the WM system.
