My DVC contract just got ROFR’d by Disney :bawl: so now I’m changing our strategy and I’m thinking we will pick up a Grandview, Woodstone or some high points low MF trader for RCI.

Question... is there any way to guarantee that the week you’re buying is a RCI points week? Like if I saw it on eBay or something. Or is there a way to find out if it does have points if it’s not advertised?

Will it be on the contract? Can I call the resort or RCI to check before signing?

And generally if it doesn’t say points on the listing, then it probably is a RCI week’s listing right?

Yes. If it doesn’t say it then it’s a weeks listing. There is a few Grandview on marketplace. How much was your DVC contract for that they took it? I’d try DVC again. I picked up an RCI points trader and to be honest, I prob should have bit the bullet and went DVC!

It was so low I’m almost embarrassed to say since I knew there was a 99% chance it would get ROFR’d :p but there was a small chance I’d get a deal! 150pts at SSR for $10k. I saw it on Redweek.

The only two that I’m interested in and don’t come up on RCI are Poly and Aulani but worst case I can just rent points.

How come you wish you would’ve just gone with DVC? Which trader did you end up buying?

So how can you guarantee it is a RCI points or you just kind of have to take the seller at their word?

You’ll have to see an estoppel. Some I’ve seen are hand written lol. If you want aulani and poly then buy DVC. There is an eBay auction now for 15K for 200 points ending today. I think at SSR? If yours ok with spending the money on DVC, then buying an RCI trader for DVC May bite ya in the backside if DVC goes to interval. Could always happen. If you want aulani then buy there. As I said, for what I want I’d be ok with a 100 point contract to use every other year or so. If I can find one cheap I’ll go all in

I already have an II trader so it would be ok. I want to get into Windjammer as well and RCI seems to have better availability than II for the resort.

I’m ok with SSR and occasional sightings of OKW and AKL which is all I think comes up on RCI for DVC.

But you’re probably right. I need to reconsider a DVC purchase.

I’ve been looking for DVC myself this week. I tend to book less than 7 mo so I’m figuring out how many points I need. 100 may be perfect and I can combine and go every other year. I actually saw the listing on redweek you tried to buy, I had a feeling it wouldn’t pass ROFR when i saw the price. I’m tempted to go for the 200 at 15K as it is now. 2019 and 2020 maint are due.

I considered offering more to try and pass ROFR too. Oh well. Lesson learned

I’m thinking if I can do RCI I can get into some of the HGVC properties on Oahu and it would be fine in addition to my II access to Marriott properties... instead of Aulani.

I bought a cheap RCI points Grandview contract that is great for picking up Orlando resorts. I have even picked up Saratoga Springs four times.

However, you are banking on landing DVC units, think again. 99.9 percent of the RCI exchanges are 1BR Saratoga Springs units. Availability is sporadic. You also have to pay an extra $190 fee to Disney, so the cost is the most of any Orlando exchange.

If you want DVC, you have to buy it and pay the price. If you are satisfied with one of the many, many other timeshare resorts in Orlando, RCI points are a great way to go.

It seems that the consensus is split. I just picked up a small every other year contract to see how it works out.
