Is anyone familiar with buyatimeshare.com?

I made an offer a $10 offer on a timeshare (free) and it was accepted. They recommended Gateway Timeshare Resale as an agent or Chicago Title as closing company. Should I be able to choose my own title company?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

as a buyer you can absolutely use your own closing company.

You don't need a escrow for a $10 purchase - an escrow company holds the payment in a secure account during the transaction, but their fee is far more than $10, so you don't need it.

You should be able to choose your own title company, but some resellers insist that you use the one they recommend, because they use an affiliated title company, or get a kick-back from the title fees.

I purchased a ts from buyatimeshare a few years back and used Chicago title to do the closing. I was very happy with the whole transaction and had no problems with Chicago title. They were pretty quick and communicated well. That's not to say you can't find someone cheaper but I felt they were reasonable at the time. Being as you already have agreed on a price and terms You probably do not need gateway. We had the same situation and Gateway actually advised us not to waste the $ as we had nothing needing negotiating.
