Car Trip through the southeast this week
Cousin said you have to stop at Buc-ee’s for gas and Buc-ee’s nuggets
Also make sure to check out the bathrooms
If you haven’t experienced Buc-ee’s yet
Highly recommended
Give yourself some extra time for the stop

We have two along the drive from Jacksonville to Orlando. The one in St Augustine is just impossible now. They bloody built a Costco there and traffic in and out is now ridiculous. We stopped at the one in Daytona Beach the last time. While traffic was bad, also because of the outlet malls, it wasn't as bad as St Augustine. But getting around, in the store and filling up wasn't fun. Sure the price of gas was about fifteen cents cheaper, but it wasn't worth the hassle. Pro tip, just skip it if it's a weekend.

While driving through Texas in 2022, we made a point to stop at Buc-ee's a couple of times. Loved it.

(BTW, you ought to get the title of the thread fixed. I know, the auto-correct on this site is aggressive. I had to go back 3 times to correct the name as I was trying to type it in my post.)

We have a brand new one I think the first here in Colorado near Longmont on I-25 which should open this summer...have heard great things overall.

I’ve been to a few in Texas and Alabama. The one in Katy is gigantic. You can buy 16 lbs of bacon fat in a bucket. So tempting.

It is hard to believe that Buc-ees (started in 1982) has reinvented the gas station and convenience store concept; it is now a must-see on driving trips. Crazy, right? I admit that I enjoy strolling through the store. I usually end up buying some fatty food, beef jerky, or sugary candy that I didn't know I needed.

I was surprised to see a New Yorker in NYC two weeks ago wearing an 'ugly' Buc-ees Christmas sweater at a party. He was so proud to tell me that he visited Buc-ees in Texas. Everyone seems to love sharing their Buc-ees experience. Long live the entrepreneurial spirit.

Never heard of that chain. I need to get out more.

Pivoting to the CLEAN bathrooms. What is your go-to for clean restrooms on road trips? When my kids were still in diapers, Starbucks was ours. Now we don’t necessarily have a favorite, but definitely prefer a chain gas station over fast food restrooms.

If you try Buc-ee's restrooms, you will have found the new standard for clean in a restroom
They are spotless, huge, well supplied, and continuously monitored
They also have 100+ gas pumps
No Semi's allowed
It is an experience in their 60,000 sq ft of shopping as well
It is controlled chaos at all levels
Quite the experience

I find Wawa gas stations to be rather clean.

No Semi's allowed
One problem I have found that while they don't allow semis, you will often see huge vehicles pulling very long travel trailers and fifth wheels. These can be problematic as well given how their pumps are setup. I get the impression that some people are pretty new to pulling a travel trailer and other people don't know when to get out of the way.

I heard Texas was going to annex Oklahoma and turn it into a Buc-ee's.

"Potty like a rock star!"

Here in Wisconsin Kwik Trips are most excellent for bathroom breaks . . . and seemingly everywhere. That said, looks like the Madison area (north on I90/94 near Deforest) is scheduled for a Buc-ees in the coming year .

Not just at Buc-cees, even truck stops. I would say 90% of 4-wheelers pulling trailers are not CDL holders, so they don't know the best techniques on turning or backing. Driving in a straight line (aka interstates) is fine, but they frequently cut off other drivers because they don't know how far back their trailer is. The worst ones are SUVs pulling trailers and they don't have trailer mirrors (just the basic ones that are on all SUVs and cars), meaning they can't see behind their trailers. Back when I drove a semi, I would keep my distance, since something I would deal with, they never dealt with.

In terms of phenomenal bathrooms on the road, Kwik-Trip and Little America (WY, CO, and AZ) have extremely well-maintained ones. Love's is a close second to those. Since a semi is not allowed at a Buc-cees, I rarely went into one.

We stop in a Buc-Cees outside of Houston, Texas last year. It was liked a mini Costco Warehouse and it had over 100+ gasoline pumps and the restrooms were very clean no odors..
The food looked good and smelled delicious .

Costco coming to Daytona in Feb!

And I agree with everything you say here.

So my daughter goes to college in Daytona Beach. I visit her pretty regularly. We were there the week in between Christmas and NY. Stopped into Buccee's in Daytona and YOWZA. The crowds, noise and sensory overload were a bit much.

I love Buccee's for gas, bathrooms on a road trip. But the novelty of stopping in to see the hoopla is over now for me. I get the same vibe as I do at IKEA.

I'm a huge Wawa fan. Did you know they do catering?
I see their ads, posters and notices in the app for their catering all the time. We really have no need for catering but I am in there probably once a week for soup (bacon cheddar potato), subs (hoagies) and beverages. We love the Wawa fresh food options.

Thankfully the Costco will be at a different interchange. Though it seems like they have it at an already busy exit with the speedway.

My wife likes to go through IKEA. I try to take as many of the shortcuts as possible in order to get to what we went in for. Going through the whole thing usually results in us coming out with either a bunch of stuff we don't need or didn't go in for.

Strangely, we find McDonalds to have the most consistently clean restrooms on our trips.

I don't have Wawa where I live but I go routinely at the one in DB . Really nice fresh options. Kiosks and self-checkouts! Even an outdoor eating area. 10 years ago if you had told me that I'd enjoy a meal at a gas station and would actually eat it at the station itself I would've said you were nuts.

Regarding the Costco - Let's hope to God that they don't pull a bonehead move and open it the same weekend /week as the Daytona 500.

We live in the heart of Buc-ee’s country and just drive on by unless we’re desperate. Way too crowded! I have noticed that other stations along highways where there is a Buc-ee’s seem to be improving, presumably due to the competition.
