Just booked a week at Silerleafs Holiday Hills(?) Anything I need to know about this resort? ( Have booked a one bedroom ).

First time in Branson ( driving in ). Which shows are the must see events? Someone mentioned the College of the Osarks for Sunday brunch. How do I go about booking a reservation? Anyone out there know the cost? Other reasonable restaurants I should know about?
Lastly, I know it will be hot so any insights into which amusement parks to see and how are they if I pack a lunch and refreshments ( cooler in the car) or is it just as easy to buy on site?
Nothing like getting advice from people in the know and timeshare owners are almost always the best sources. Thanks Dave
P.S. I have a 'special needs ' daughter and I know that Bush Gardens and Sea World ( Orlando and Tampa ) offer half price tickets. Anything like that in Branson?

Holiday Hills is a huge resort you may have to drive to get to many of the onsite amenities. If you want discount tickets you can always stop at one of those ticket vendors (timeshare fronts) and agree to a presentation and get tickets anywhere from free to 1/2 price. I used to do this a lot but lately I have grown tired of the hassle.

Holiday Hills

I own at Holiday Hills but I seldom go there. It is reasonablely nice but it is huge. Personally, I'd just go to a sauna rather than go to Branson in August. It is hot, humid and crowded.

Branson has a wide variety of show & other activities. Silver Dollar City is a fun place, with about 30 rides & many shows & craftsman throughout the "old time" setting. It is several hills within the park, I don't know if this is a concern with your daughter. Celebration City is also an amusement park with fewer rides and open from 3 - 10 ( I believe) daily. They have a nice fireworks show at night. White Water is a large waterpark in Branson also.

A new show just opened this year at the Sight & Sound Theatre, it is called Noah. It has gotten rave reviews, as it has live animals in the production.

I have never eaten at the College of the Ozarks, I would just call them for info. You will find a variety of restaurants in the Branson area. Pretty much anywhere you stop & at the resort as well, you will find coupon booklets with various discounts. Several of the resorts offer guests the Branson VIP coupon book which also has a lot of coupons.

The weather is generally hot in August, however, if it isn't humid it won't be bad. We usually always go up in August before school starts & have a great time.

Please let me know if I can answer any other specific questions.

Enjoy your trip.

Dave,

It's always hard to recommend Branson shows, because it depends on your style of music. I personally recommend SIX and Pierce Arrow, because I like that style. Dixie Stampede is always a good choice for a dinner show, but it's more expensive.

College of the Ozarks has an excellent restaurant. It will cost less than $10 per person for lunch with dinner costing less than $25 (or $20, depending on what you like). It's slightly higher than some of the other chain restaurants, but it does provide a unique experience in a nice atmosphere. You don't need reservations, and most of the time I've been seated within 10-15 minutes.

I've heard very good things about the Noah show also, but haven't seen it.

I always recommend spending time at nearby Table Rock lake. There are plenty of swimming places and picnic tables. Stop by KFC on the way, bring some drinks, and you're set for the day!

We like Dogwood Canyon very much, but you have to pay to get in.

I would also highly recommend Silver Dollar City and White Water (water park).

Since you will be staying at the Holiday Hills resort, you'll be very close to the Branson Landing for the shopping and free water shows.

It does tend to get hot in August around here... 90's to 100's (low 100's!), so good luck!

Also, do a search in this section (US-Central) for "Branson". There's been a lot of discussion over the past year.

It is hot and humid in August, Silver Dollar City might be a bit much, with walking up and down hills.

Some shows shut down in August for vacation; I recommend going to www.reservebranson.com and put in your dates of travel and it will give you a list of shows for those dates.

Some recommendations:

Drive up and down the Strip to see what might interest you.

Outlet Shopping: My favorite is the Tanger Mall.

Do the Ride the Ducks tour (there are two of them now, but do the one on the Strip (Hwy 76) close to WalMart.

Dinner show on the Branson Belle; great food, fun show.

The Duttons for a family show (check out their family pass price)

If Shoji Tabuchi has a show during your dates, I think everyone should see his show at least once.
