The most useful benefits of Chairman I personally find are Bonvoy Titanium status and therefore United and Air Canada entry level elite status (free bags etc), and 30% discount on abound point bookings within 60 days. But yes, I wouldn't pay a lot of cash to reach Chairman.
I fly United often and I always upgrade to comfort plus exit row each time. Titanium has gotten me some really great suite upgrades in Europe and the Caribbean .

I agree. Spoke to onsite sales manager today he said the tried to get their regional manager to just give me Chairman status but the answer was no. They are giving me another 10 days to rescind though. So they'd rather lose 20K and forever maintenance fees than keep that and just forfeit a little bit on their end due to their mistake.
??
Seems strange
Somehow guessing that if you rescind they will be trying to pitch you something else "to make it up to you"

If they rescind, Sales won't even be involved, the deal just gets cancelled at the Rescission Department and the sales guy doesn't get his commission. I suspect that's a better outcome for sales than having to try to sell their overlords on some kind of special deal to make up for the false representations they apparently made, which might be a career-limiting move.

I am glad they are giving you an out ( as they did with @happymum in post #10) as it was a mistake on their part.
I don’t see it as a sales lie to you as it was an error.
If they were trying to “trick” you or deceive you, they wouldn’t be admitting they were wrong and allowing you to back out of the contract.
Yes, they are losing a 20K sale but are doing the right thing by you.
While disappointing, you can now decide whether to proceed or not.

I'm glad to hear that they extended the rescission window for you. Obviously the decision is up to you, but if you do decide to move forward buying an additional 1000 Abound points is not that difficult nor expensive in the grand scheme of things - ~$7,000 - $8,000.

Couldn't you just buy those upgrades for far less money than it took to get to chairman level?

Abound points cost $3-$4 per club point + a little over $3/point to MVC in 'activation' fees (minimum $3000). You can find many 1000 point deeds on Redweek, eBay, etc....even right here on TUG's marketplace.

The only way to pay $17 per club point is to buy them directly from MVC.
