Anyone told during a presentation that all of our contracts added up together would be a certain number well above the Chairman threshold? We even had the sales manager break down each contract for us. Come to find out after the rescind period, one contract's club points value was overcalculated by 2x. Anyone encounter this and what can be done here? Sales manager responded to my email that he would "look into it"; have followed up since then but no response.....

Wow, that was a big mistake. I would be very upset. Do you have proof that they told you a certain number of points? A picture of the offer taken with a cell phone, for example?

Could have been a deliberate lie.

This just happened to a friend, you need to take it above the sales manager level to get a resolution.

what was your friend's resolution? Marriott never ceases to amaze me how scummy they are. they buy every single location and are everywhere which makes it hard to say no, even with unethical practices.

Could you just use this as an excuse to rescind whatever you bought directly from Marriott and then just buy the points on the resale market?

Well you know what your answer should be the next time they try to sell you something.

Rescind period is over, buying on resale will not 1) be included in the VSN network 2) will not grandfather in previous resale contract 3) doesn't get me any closer to Chairman.

With a written confirmation of what you bought, and the associated point values you have a clear cut case that you purchased based on incorrect information provided by the corporation’s representative. Despite the rescission period being over, the company should be willing to buyback your contract. That was my experience.
What resort were you at when you completed this purchase?

See @happymum response.

Did you happen to want to retro SDO?
There are two different SOs assigned depending on whether you have a true platinum 51,52,1-20 or a 1-50 float.

What is the big deal about getting to Chairman? Seems like Marriott and other companies keep whittling down any perceived benefits to these programs. Half of the benefits listed for Chairman seem completely useless.

The most useful benefits of Chairman I personally find are Bonvoy Titanium status and therefore United and Air Canada entry level elite status (free bags etc), and 30% discount on abound point bookings within 60 days. But yes, I wouldn't pay a lot of cash to reach Chairman.

Presidential level also gets Bonvoy Titanium status. Both levels get 30% discount on Abound points bookings within 60 days. The difference between Presidential and Chairman's Club level is 18 months vs. 24 months expiration for banked points.

Agree, i'm really paying to retro a WSJ Platinum Plus 2 BR Week 1. More annoyed that I was deceived.

Extra six months to use banked points and getting 2 extra months to bank. But agree it's not worth the money, what's more worthy is retro-ing a WSJ Platinum Plus 2 BR Week 1. Again, its the fact that we were deceived.

Sorry to hear. I think their sales people have a quota on the number of lies they have to tell in one day. My goal every time they try to sucker me into an owner update is squeeze them for as much money as possible. The look of defeat on the sales staff when they had one of those types in front of them was very satisfying. He kept telling me that Marriott was a large company trying to protect its interests. I don't care. I could care less if I'm taking advantage of them.

It appears you may have some documentation in writing (in your own post #4) which says to me that they may be forced to allow you to rescind or actually make you whole. Sounds like the Sales Manager "really" dropped the ball when calculating things! I'm thinking the Sales Manager should personally eat this misrepresentation.

Your valid argument is that you would not have taken the plunge if you weren't able to obtain the upgraded benefits (small as they are).

This will be interesting to watch how things progress (or maybe not progress at all)........

Good luck fighting this. I am guessing that you would have had to spend another $10,000 to $15,000 to reach your membership goal.

Sounds to me like they should just give you complimentary upgrade to Chairman
Would not cost them a penny

I agree. Spoke to onsite sales manager today he said the tried to get their regional manager to just give me Chairman status but the answer was no. They are giving me another 10 days to rescind though. So they'd rather lose 20K and forever maintenance fees than keep that and just forfeit a little bit on their end due to their mistake.
