Headed to Marriott Long Wharf Hotel/Boston in mid October for the better part of a week...can't wait!!!
AWESOME time to be there, maybe the best. Wanted the hotel experience rather than Custom House, which we'll do later.
Thank you J.W.--- staying on Rewards Points.

The Fall foliage should be peaking, there's a huge Regatta on the river, and to top it off, we're spending a "special day" with an old TUG friend Gloria Foley & husband, who live just north of Boston------

We'll be doing one of her favorite things, she says----- taking us to Cape Ann/Rockport /Essex to dine at the famous restaurant Woodman's of Essex.

I met Gloria and family in the late 90's and early 2000's at Grande Ocean, where she visited numerous times. She's a lot of fun and used to be a prolific TUG poster. Should be wonderful to reconnect. They've parted with their timeshares, so she's been off TUG a good while.

Been taking lots of notes on Boston stuff......would love to hear Joe's activities and recommendations, among others. Sooo much to do that it's overwhelming. Eating lobster would be enough, but the rest will be gravy.

Nearby Grocery Stores

There are two nearby deli type stores that have much better selection of foods than does the Tedeschi across street from the Custom House.

The larger of the two is the Golden Goose on Commercial St - this is where the activity manager gets his supplies for events. A smaller one is Going Bananas (really) on the lower end of Salem. GB has wonderful sandwiches and wraps for $6.99. If one has II Gold, he can get a BOGO coupon for a GB sandwich. There is a Trader Joe's with a liquor license at the Coolidge Corner stop of the Green C T line.

As of two weeks ago, Harpoon Brewery was doing tours for $5 on Saturday and Sunday. Doyle's pub near Sam Adams brewery had a deal where you could keep the Sam Adams glass if you bought a beer there. They were even running a shuttle from the Sam Adams parking lot.

If one wants to try an assortment of restaurants, not necessarily gourmet, both Restaurant.com and Groupon have some good dining coupons including some for the North End.

The Custom House had a diverse set of entertainers at 8 PM most nights in the Counting Room, and a wine and cheese get together on Friday evening. Light breakfast items are available for sale each morning, although the coffee is free. It doesn't happen every week, obviously, but we had a cookout on the 26th floor observation deck at noon on the 4th of July.
