Bored, so decided to attend an "update"

Stops their hounding and harassing in their tracks. Sounds like CW is more lax.

Doesn't agreeing to attend a presentation only if they give you $500 also do the same? I will never turn down an update if they meet my price. The last two times I checked into a MVC property they didn't meet my price so no presentation. They tried calling my phone but I never answer the thing as numbers not in my contacts list go straight to voice mail.

I've played with the numbers and can't figure out how you guys came up with 625 years!
Although I think the funniest thing would be if the OP went back to the salesperson and said, "Some friends and I were talking about the break-even point on this purchase, and we couldn't agree on the number. Some of us thought it was 625 years, while others thought it was 208 years. Can you help me check our math?" :ROFLMAO:

I have to say that for $100K, we bought 1,000 Disney points 18 months ago. Disney points resale for about $80 per point. We get perks for staying onsite at Disney, perks in the parks (lounges), plus we are able to rent points we don't use for almost twice our MF's.

Wyndham's resale is $0. We cannot rent Wyndham anymore.

Talk about throwing money away.

We were able to convert our PAHIO Bali Hai and Shearwater weeks for a total of $20K spend, and for that spend we had 2 VIP Founder's accounts with over 2.3 million in one, 1.7 million in the other. That was 18 years ago, but it was a great deal, and we knew it. Of course we paid for the PAHIO weeks, so all in we paid $140K for 4 million developer points. Let that sink in.

Thanks. You hit on one of the top things on my list and helps me decide this may be the time to change. As we are all told, change is inevitable!

The fact that DVC, the largest entertainment company in the world; made their exit, spoke volumes to me. All I can do now to fix that is to buy into them directly. And I'm hoping that will mean I won't be stuck at SSR on some random date anymore. Gotta work through this fiasco first, but looking forward to educating myself more on DVC in the next year.

There are some great things to buy resale that are worthy of the cost and the MF's. This includes Disney, but also includes Westin, Marriott, and even some generic weeks in great locations.

This is a depressed market for anything you buy timeshare currently. Wyndham is out of their minds to offer anything for $100K that won't even get two weeks of vacation a year in a 2 bedroom.

We just purchased two units, passed ROFR with Westin, oceanfront center two bedroom lockoffs at Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Villas The value of those is phenomenal. We stay on Maui six weeks a year so this makes total sense for us. We rent the studios.

Thanks. It's just really hard. I own nothing but Wyndham. Been super loyal to them. It sucks more than any of you can imagine. Franz told us it would never go down this way when he sold these deeds.

Edit: You all probably understand. Feel kinda selfish they way I said it.

For years I followed Ron and Joan and the lifestyle they pioneered. I was so envious and built my empire to do just that. And in a few short months, I'm being stripped of this unless I fall in line with the new program. I'm super disappointed. It's the last trick they'll pull on me though.

Edit: sorry I've drifted off topic. Move anything you need to. Sorry!

". . . lower my maintenance fees @ $40/month if I buy 300k more points for $100,000."

Breakeven point is a couple hundred years from now, disregarding the time value of money.
Do the math? How can buying 300K more points lower your maintenance fees. You would be in debt for $100.000.00 dollars.
I feel that TS salesperson thought he had a sucker sitting at the table. LOL
Your Answer! No! No!

What has changed for you with Wyndham? Just buy more resale with less MF's per point. Are you losing benefits that you had before, or is it a salespeople who is telling you something that is probably not true.

Ron and Joan are to be admired. They are more settled now, but what a journey they had!

I have to also add that 1,000 DVC points gets us 4-6 weeks in a 1 bedroom unit at Disney resorts. Even Disney's Riviera is 153 points for 6/7-6/14 in a studio, and it's my favorite resort at Disney because it's on the Skyliner.

What does stripped of this? What is the new program?

To the OP, how were you able to attend the timeshare sale presentation without you spouse? Especially as a resale owner. LOL.

$40/month x 12 months/year = $480/year

$100,000/$480/year = 208.333 years

Where did I go wrong?
You’re right. I have no idea where I went wrong.

And without too much effort, you could turn around and resell that if you had to on DVC Resale Market for $80k-$90k (you broke them up into smaller contracts, right?).

Yes, but we aren't selling them, not in my lifetime.

Sorry, by new program I was referring to CWA which is not a new program, but new to me. LOL!

Stripped, I think I can work on explaining my view of this. Let me work on that and gather my thoughts. It's been on my mind since yesterday.

thepointsguy website values WR points at 1.1 cents. I've found most stays (usually La Quinta for us but also some Wyndham TS 1 BR units) take 15,000 points/night but those are discounted 10% to 13,500 points/night for Wyndham CC holders. There are some properties at half that rate but I haven't come across any of those that seemed acceptable.
The Wyndham Earner Plus CC gets 6 points for every dollar spent on gasoline, an excellent return! WR points don't get the attention of the other systems, likely because most of the properties aren't upscale. But WR is a good program. As you noted WR points do need to be used within 4 years of earning.
I have found WR points to be 1.3 cents. However that is really close to The Points Guy who seems to know his stuff. Wyndham also gives military/retired military a discount also. So that may help you also.
Wyndham is currently offering WR points at a 100% bonus. Pull up the WR site and see if that works for you.

DId an update at Old Town Alexandria today, was very low pressure, the sales person could read the room. They did say a couple questionable things like, "National Harbor is getting a special assessment to repair the parking garage".

I know that's a lie because there is no parking garage at National Harbor. It's across the street and owned by a third party. And there's no way owners would get a special assessment for a parking garage we don't own and have to pay to use.

Also they tried to get us to swap (and buy more) points at Midtown 45, they said MF are lower, which I know is wrong, but I explained early on I own resale, have no interest in buying any more points from Wyndham.

I was in and out in UNDER 30 minutes, no group presentation, just in and out. Didn't even give us a written offer to look at. All in all, probably the best one i've done in the last 10 months.

Almost everyone has had a bad experience, if not experiences, typically with both the parking pass/concierge people and the sales people. Anyone who goes to the sales presentations, excuse me updates lol, should expect that they will be lied to, manipulated, taken advantage of, etc. to make a sale. The salespeoples continued employment and livelihood depends on meeting their sales quotas.

The best advice I can pass on from someone else is to let that go and move on.

If you're at least a Gold VIP and able to travel, don't be influenced by the many negative posts about the closings and offered swap and cut off your nose to spite your face. Especially if it means losing your current VIP level. TAKE THE EXCHANGE FOR CWA POINTS! Yes, I'm shouting!

Thanks, and I appreciate your shouting, I am shouting it myself, and keep asking myself if keeping anything is worthwhile. In 2 days I go from Grandfathered Founders VIP to nothing. Not even anything but a pittance of points. True, I can convert, but CWA fees are 20% (actually 19.76%) higher than I have at my horribly expensive legacy resorts. (Figure that out when they say they are closing because of the anticipated costs??!!??). This is another ENRON for me, and I did and bought exactly what they told me to do for the lifestyle I spent years of time and tons of money developing to have a retirement that all my friends would be envious of. I used to tell them in a kind way they didn't plan for their future and that's why I have this incredible lifestyle. I look like a fool to them now.

The sad part is, being retail makes what is such an easy decision for a resale owner, much more difficult for me. I have to give it up or take a 20% MF increase. This HAS to be illegal, IMO.

I really appreciate your last paragraph. I worry I'm doing exactly that. But to pay 20% more on ALL my points, when I don't actually use them all for developer purposes, I know I'm stupid to give it up, but am I not just as stupid to keep it? A really hard decision to make with something I've built over 40+ years. And I was given 30 days to decide my future. This is just sick of them. Forced to accept this. No consumer protection whatsoever. My biggest concern, if I do take it, what do they hit me with next? I don't know if I can continue with a lifestyle program that makes me spend more time navigating it than I'm enjoying it. Part of my decision is also simply, I'm not enjoying it anymore. I'm sick and tired of buying into a lifetime program and then being in subset after subset after subset.

Help me! I want to keep what I built so bad, but having gone through Enron, I'm scared

It's just like Wyndham's sales staff, legerdemain imho.

Love that I learned a new word today. So impressed with that one!

To the OP, take the CWA. Maybe if more people are moving to CWA the cost will go down. With all of these older resorts closing, and some probably already in CWA, the cost may not be as much as you'd think.

Keeping the status that you have is important. Jan is right. Don't have regrets later. There are some benefits to CWA as well. I haven't looked into all of the benefits, but I believe you can book resorts ahead.

Due to the lack of communication, this is just speculating, but is this their way of telling us the plans?
