My husband has an itinerary on hold for our trip to Portugal in May. The flight only had coach available for the Paris to Lisbon segment and the return flight involves a one-night layover in Paris.

This is the first time we've attempted to book business class with ff miles and I'm tempted to wait to see if we can get a more direct flight on the way home. If we had a chance to actually do anything in Paris, I wouldn't mind, but this seems like it would just be a big hassle with the added expense of a hotel night and no chance to really do anything while there.

Any advice from those of you out there who have some experience with Delta and/or business class availability?

A lot will depend on how the economy affects those who fly. However, May is getting into the peak travel period for going to Europe, so I wouldn't think your chances are high for getting that business class seat if it's not available now.

I have had good success with Delta in getting business class seats to Europe with SkyMiles, even in peak season, but I always try to book right at the 330 day window.

If you are trying online without success, you should call Delta and ask about other flights on partner airlines, if you are willing to consider that option.
