Hello All,

Does Chairman's Club status give you automatic titanium for Bonvoy? I managed to meet lifetime Titanium before switchover so I changed the main Bonvoy account to my husband but he is only showing Platinum, which doesn't come with the United Silver Premier membership.

TIA!

When did you make the switch of the Bonvoy number? As I understand it, they only switch the status once a year. IIRC, the change has to be made sometime before the end of the year in order for it to be applicable to the next year. So if you just changed the Bonvoy number on the ownership this year, it won't apply for Bonvoy status until 2022.

I made it months prior to year end, around the summer. Instead of Titanium, he was assigned Platinum. Prior to 2021, was just Silver under the Lifetime Silver status and noticed it changed last month to Platinum. But based on the chart posted by Fastr, it is supposed to be Titanium.

Yes, it should be Titanium. I think you need to call MVC.

I did exactly the same as you once I met Lifetime Titanium status.
When I changed the main Bonvoy account linked to our MVC ownership to my wife’s, I recall there was a delay before that account registered as Titanium through the Owner benefit level.
I can’t remember though whether that had to wait for an annual update or just a shorter admin process.
Hopefully it will be the latter for you.

We did the same when I became lifetime Titanium and changed our MVC to my wife's number. As I recall, the cutoff for the year is sometime around the end of January each year. She is lifetime Silver but it shows Titanium on the website. We do everything but duplicate nights under her number to build up her nights as well. When we have concurrent reservation and she wouldn't get the nights anyway, we do them under mine or my daughters when she's with us.

Agree, thanks dioxide45 and Fasttr!!

Post back the result. Perhaps there are some rules around a cutoff or something else, would be useful for others to know. Seems like you would have been changed already though.

There is a cutoff and it's around the end of Jan to early Feb but seems to vary a little year by year from what I've seen posted so being the end of last year it must be another issue. Maybe it didn't get changed completely on MVC's side since all members would have a separate account. Might be a good idea to look at both sign ons online and make sure both list the number desired.

But the OP indicated they made the change sometime last year.

Yes, I know and acknowledged that that's why I said it must be another issue. I also wondered if it might have been changed on one account but not the other since a couple actually has 2 different accounts.

So can someone help clarify for me...the Bonvoy number registered on your MVC chairman’s level is what gets titanium? So if I change it to my wife’s then she would be titanium?

Thanks, FD

Yes, but they only update the Bonvoy status once a year.

Thanks that is new information for me.

We did the same as others here. I came out of the Marriott rewards/SPG conversion to Bonvoy as lifetime platinum. So I called and changed the primary Bonvoy number on our account so my wife would get the Bonvoy Platinum status from our Select level ownership. We now also try to direct all nights stayed to our account unless we are trying to renew Titanium on mine. The goal is to get her to lifetime Platinum. Though she will have it as long as we own Marriott and as long as they don't change the rules.

I'm curious as to what the benefit of having elite status for both myself and spouse is? If we always travel together, is there a benefit that we might be missing out on by only one of us having elite status?

If you can get both people to Titanium Elite, then you both get a 40K free night certificate. Outside of that, there isn't as much. Many people will also target a lifetime status on one person, then switch the bookings over to try to get the other spouse to lifetime. We don't all live forever and lifetime elite status is not transferable.

I didn’t realize that I needed Bonvoy status separate from my husband, until I was planning my first big overseas trip without him; I was informed I’d neither have concierge lounge access, not be able to accrue room night credits to what I had long assumed was a joint account. Thankfully, I could spend spring break completing a gold challenge mattress run, with the kids, in time for 5 weeks in Asia, where lounge access was/is a truly valuable perk... e.g. when the Marriott Tang Plaza (Singapore) chose to provide me and my underage ones access to their $40 buffet breakfasts vs have the littles in the lounge.

These days, booking hotel rooms in each of our names/titanium numbers provides us each the ability to cover a now-older child as a lounge guest

I thought you still have to meet the 75 nights each year for the free night certificate, even if Lifetime Titanium?

UPDATE - Marriott made it right and updated my husband's status to Titanium Elite from Platinum. I linked his United membership and his status has now been upgraded to Silver :cheer::cheer::cheer:

Silver allows us free economy plus + one companion per silver member at check-in and free luggage up to 70 lbs. Not having to worry about a few pounds over 50 is awesome for me!

Not much if you are always traveling together but here's the benefits we avail with both of us as Titanium-

- Half of the time, we travel with family so both of us having Titanium allows the 2nd hotel reservation we are booking for family to a free upgrade because I book it under his name.

- With Titanium, the United silver status - we get an additional companion eligible for free economy plus upgrade at check-in. We also both would receive the 70 lb (versus standard 50 lb check-in limit)

Thanks for mentioning this. I never knew that Titanium allows for United Silver status so now I know to link the two accounts together. Although having said that, I've avoided United ever since they had that incident where they forcibly removed and injured the doctor due to an oversold flight.

Does Marriott also have the same policy like Vistana [LIFETIME-ONCE-ONLY-CHANGE]?

Last year when I switched my wife to "Primary" on our Vistana ownership so that she could qualify as Bonvoy-Platinum we had to sign a document that we acknowledged that this change is only permitted LIFETIME-ONCE-ONLY and cannot be reverted.

It took about a month for the change to reflect on her Bonvoy-Account.

Since we always travel big [6-8 people] we end up booking multiple rooms and its nice to qualify for Upgrades +Breakfast + Lounge-Access on both rooms.
