Blender Recommendations (2009)

Hmmm, Jim...One cup of hot water, one drop of dishwashing soap, 6 seconds on "pulse", and my Blendtec is clean.
Enjoy your Oster. I used to have one, but it never changed my thinking about how easy it is to have better, more nutritious eating choices. Happy New Year!

Vitamix. I have run through $40-$150+ blenders over an over. Finally got the Vitamix and as others have said, I will never waste my money on anything else. 7 year warranty. great customer service. I had a small part go bad after about 2 years ( it cracked and was probably my fault taking the blender pitcher up before it was completely done spinning )...and I called and a new one was shipped for free and in my hand in short order.

So what is the difference between the Blendtec & Vitamix? I think I've seen both at Costco & possibly another brand?

Which one do you recommend?

Anyone tried the new $45 Ninja? The blade is in the middle.

Vitamix

We have had our Vitamix for 3 years and love it. Our oldest daughter has had hers for 5 years and was always saying how it was the best, so we finally purchased one. It does everything we need and more.

I've heard great things about the Ninja...a great blender, but I don't know about a $45 one. If it has a strong motor, that's super. The Vitamix is another well recommended one. I don't really need one that will eat a golf club, or a skeleton, but I love my Blendtec. LOL!

I had a vitamix years ago and never mastered using it. Dunno why, except maybe it was the old style with the solid container that you couldn't see inside, and you had this weird wood tamper thing you had to poke down to keep the food against the blades. I hated the tamper. Sold it on Ebay. Since then I burned up a Kitchenaid or Cuisinart on the average of one per year. A little over a year ago, shopping in Costco for yet another replacement, we saw the Blendtec demo. The 7-year warranty and ease of use, with no tamper, sold us. I love my Blendtec - instant mastery, no learning curve. We purchased it in early October 2010 IIRC, and the thing on the front shows we've used it 893 times. It doesn't count pulsing as a use, so it's probably well into the thousands. I made low-carb "pumpkin pie ice cream" in it for Thanksgiving and nobody could believe it -- I am most happy with our investment in the Blendtec.

Since I got my Blendtec (which welcomes frozen strawberries & other fruits), we drink green smoothies every day, packed with fresh greens (kale, turnip greens, spinach, chard, etc), foods that would never cross my lips any other way, and bananas, peaches, mangos, strawberries, whatever I choose, plus some water & ice cubes, and we love them. It's a whole new world of delicious nutrition.
I also add chia seeds & flax seeds.
What a difference it's making in how we feel.

Vitamix!! Does it all, with daily use, worth the cost. CostCo has best deal with extras included-look for their special shows.

My research found Vitamix and Blendtec to be very close in most ways, but they both stand out from all others as the best on the market. I prefer not to have to use a tamper, but I understand that either one is a wonderful tool.
I also recommend the book, "Green for Life", by Victoria Boutenko. I bought that, as well as "The Green Smoothie Diet" by Robyn Openshaw. There is a wealth of information in those. (Available at Amazon)

Had a couple blenders and a Magic Bullet. Finally got a VitaMix at Costco. Love it. Used in more in a short period than all the others combined. Always making smoothies and love the taco soup. I just start throwing stuff into it, making things up. And yes it is very easy to clean.

I need a new blender mine is dying. I make a lot of crushed ice drinks. Do you have a favorite??
Recently I bought KitchenAid because it was recommended by Americas Test Kitchen. I'm glad I did. I mainly use it for smoothies. It crushes the ice easy and makes them so smooth and creamy it's like a milkshake. I don't see how any of the more expensive ones could possibly do a better job.

+1 on Vitamix. I thought my wife was crazy to pay that much when she came home from Costco with it, but wow does it work. I’m at a point where I’d much prefer to pay a little more for something that will last a lot longer.

I still have my original Osterizer that I got at my bridal shower 42 years ago!

A dead thread resurrected after almost 8 years on hiatus.
I wonder what the record is.
