I'm always amused by the fact that IC's are processed in state of the art clean rooms by numerous pieces of bleeding edge multimillion dollar equipment (such as mentioned in the linked AMAT article), and yet sell for less than a steel washer stamped in a dirty factory by a low tech machine. :shrug:

I worked there.


I worked there twice in my career. the first thing they tell you in at new employee indoctrination is all the ways you can die there.

Lots of nasty/explosive gases used in making chips. Lots of fast moving robotic arms that can lop yours off in an instant.

Hated going in the clean rooms in bunny suits to test software, but it was interesting to work there!
