Please help! I'm new to timesharing and am looking for some expert opinions from all of you. I know this may be an impossible question, but in your experience which is a better way to get the exchange I want. I own a 2BR L/O in Scottsdale, and I have 2 options: 1) reserve the small half (studio) for a week in March which is the "prime time" in AZ or 2) reserve the full 2BR for a week in less demand (maybe thxgiving or christmas). In your experiences, which has the better trading power? smaller unit in primetime, or larger unit in a lower demand week?

I'm hoping to exchange option 1 or 2 for a DVC property in early December 2009 (off peak for Orlando). Guess next year when I own it for the full year I'll know to book the 2BR for March 12 months in advance.

TIA!

What size unit at DVC do you want to exchange to? I am not sure about which option gives you better trading power. But for my Wyndham II deposit, only bigger size could pull DVC. I could get a studio unit with a studio deposit. But for 2 bedroom DVC, I need to trade a 3 bedroom.

Also early December is a very popular DVC season. I own DVC points and made reservation for early Dec for the past three years. I had to reserve before 7 month mark in order to get to my home resort. I don't recall seeing early Dec showing up in sighting board. But I could be wrong. The bright side about early Dec is it is very slow season in Orlando. If you don't get DVC, you will have plenty of last minute choices.

thank you! I just joined and now have a new username (malyons instead of lyonsma :) )...I joined so I could see the sightings board but now cannot find it. Where is the sightings board I've read so much about?

As for DVC - it is very popular in early Dec but the rest of Orlando is not? I know I'm asking a lot, but I'd like to trade into a 2BR, which is why I'm so concerned about trying to do it w/ a studio. I guess I was thinking that if I had a peak studio it might be worth a 2BR off peak. Maybe I'm better off just going w/ say a 2BR L/O for thanksgiving week and seeing if that could get me a 2BR DVC

Dealing through Interval, they are pretty sticky about like for like in size. An "upgrade" from a studio to a two bedroom in an exchange would be much more likely with RCI.

That being said, I am fairly confident you could get a very nice two bedroom non-Disney timeshare in Orlando in early December on an exchange for a studio, but I will defer to more experienced Interval users than myself.

December is a very popular time for DVC owners because it is less points per night and the holiday festivities are in full swing.

If you must have a two bedroom then your best chance is to deposit a two bedroom and put in an ongoing request for a two bedroom DVC unit.

You cant place a request for a larger unit than you deposit so using a studio or one bedroom would limit you to making an instant exchange for a two bedroom which is unlikely. And that is providing that your smaller unit would have enough trade power to pull the larger DVC unit.
