I am looking to pay rent for a unit for next December. In the past i have felt comfortable paying with my paypal account protect the transaction. the person this time does not have paypal. any advice?

It takes about 60 seconds to set up paypal - send your payment to his usual email address and they will walk him through it.

If you send a check, you have no recourse if there is a problem.

His rental is 12 months away, I dont think he will have any recourse with paypal or credit card.

the person renting me the unit said he will let me use paypal. He has sent me the II convfirmation in his name. Would you suggest I pay the addition $39.00 to II to change the name on the reservation?

Since II doesn't allow exchanges to be rented, contacting II is not a good idea at all. The other person needs to pay for a guest certificate to put the reservation in your name. If you show up with his confirmation, they won't let you check in.

But be aware, that if you get caught renting a II exchange, you can lose the week and the other guy will be in trouble, too.

If you haven't paid him yet, I wouldn't do it. You have a chance of losing all your money and the rental, as well.

I was suggesting he contacts II and changes the the name. As long as my name is on the reservation I am satisfied.

You are fine as long as you do not pay rent $$ for the II exchange.

Of course you could pay $$ for his/her "vacation advice".
