PayPal.

Accept the scary aspects just like we accept the scary aspects of many other things in life.

There is no fool proof method of accepting payment unless you meet someone in person and get cash. PayPal is a good choice and really not so scary. Remember, you always have control of your reservation, so if the rental falls apart, you just take the reservation out of the renter's name and re-rent it, or use it yourself, or deposit it with an exchange company. You have options.

I do accept PayPal but I also offer to accept personal checks. I instruct the interested tenant to mail it via USPS Trackable Priority Mail and ask them to send me the tracking number. I give them four business days to get it to me or I go on with life and rent it to the next person.

For some reason some folks don't want to use PayPal so this is a great alternative for someone if they want to use it.

Personal checks are my favorites, considering that my TS rentals usually get rented 4-11 months in advance.
No fees and more than enough time to know and re-rent if not good.

I've always only accepted personal checks. Never had an issue. Although I have generally rented well in advance of the actual check-in
