We are planning a trip to Cancun next spring for our big 50th birthdays. We would like an all inclusive with fantastic views of the ocean. We really don't care if we stay in the hotel district. We are also thinking of Playa del Carmen or Cozumel. We have only been to Mexico once and we stayed at the Mayan Palace on the Riviera. THis time we would like to be closer to town. Thanks for your help.

:hi:
We've been to Cancun hotel zone and also Cozamel so this trip we are going to the Avalon Reef Club on Isla Mujeres. The photos on the web site are wonderful. This resort is on the north shore on its own little islet, you must cross a wooden bridge to get to. It just looks so peaceful.

Good luck and happy planning!

We had friends who stayed at the Rui - there are serveral - and they really liked it.Felt it was a good value - nice food and drink and great location.

Grand Mayan?

Thanks for the help. I'm not sure now if our friends want to go AI. We were at the Mayan Palace a few years ago, and it sounds like they would like to try the Grand Mayan. Is there anyway, when exchanging through RCI, to get a room with a view? Or, are there even any rooms with a view? What about the beach there? It was not good last time. TIA

I was at the RIU Cancun in late January and really liked it. Most all of the rooms had small balconies with excellent ocean views and we were right on the beach. We got airfare and the resort through a travel agent and got a good deal. The resort is AI. Food was very decent, although we never made it to the restaurants that needed reservations. The only beer there was Corona.

The staff was very helpful and the resort is on the bus line and close to several markets. We did not eat out as we did not want to miss any of the free food or beverages.

Oh, and the weather was great there in late January, especially compared to our Iowa weather.

I would be happy to answer any questions about the resort.

TyH, we loved Isla Mujeres. The island was lovely. We only visited for the day but would love to go back. Please post how your trip was and any tips you'd like to offer.

Maddaug,
I will write a report once we get back. There are really no recent updates. Just wish we didn't have to wait sooo long:( before we arrive. If anyone else could chime in who has stayed or toured there lately that would be very helpful. I've been on other boards and this resort has some mixed reviews but mostly from those who have stayed in the hotel.
Sandy
