A TUGGER earlier mentioned that the Marriott Travel Packages worked well for his family in San Antonio. I'm considering something similar for San Diego. Can anyone suggest the 'best' places to stay? Which hotels have great locations, are there any timeshares (even non-Marriott properties) which might be reccommended? I'd like to be close to some of the major attractions (beach/zoo/downtown, etc.) At this point just starting search and intend to travel this summer. Thanks for any input.

We went to San Diego last summer with our kids. We stayed at the Marriott Coronado Island which we loved. It's not a timeshare, but a nice resort overlooking San Diego Bay and downtown. The beach was a quick drive from there. Coronado is beautiful, especially the beach. We drove everywhere from there - zoo, Sea World, downtown - and had no problems. The area is easy to navigate. We loved the area so much that we eventually want to purchase a timeshare there.

The San Diego Marriott Marina Hotel is in a great location. If you want to spend less points there is a fairly new Residence Inn near downtown on Pacific Highway that will give you a little more room and include the free breakfast.
