My daughter-in-law and her friends are planning a getaway to Atlantic City, NJ in November. Best places for fun? Safest places to stay - I've heard that some areas aren't safe?

Any thoughts?

This is a t/s resort it may be to low key the Marriott's Fairway Villa at Seaview located in Galloway,NJ. About a 20 minutes drive to AC. The resort features a great salon & spa, indoor heated pool, and a fitness center.

All villas are two bedrooms rooms, a screened balcony, a fully kitchen and washer and dryer. There are three televison with a dvr in the two bedroom vilas.

Sounds perfect - called, searched sites, can't find availability the week of Nov. 7, which is when the girls are free.

Fairway villas would have been great but are apparently not available when you want. I would suggest trying to get a deal at any of the major casinos like Caesars, Harrah's etc. Caesars has everything contained within including a wonderful shopping pier that goes way out into the ocean. We stayed at the Fairway Villas but would stay at Caesars if I was going to stay at a casino resort. Safety is a matter of common sense anywhere you go. You don't want, or need, to be walking around the city at night. Pretty much stay on the boardwalk or at the Casinos. You can drive from one to the other and they all have valet parking or walk to some via the boardwalk. Valet parking is reasonably priced.

My daughter and I stayed at Skyline Towers (is it a Fairfield or a wyndham now- I don;t remember) two summers ago and it was terrific. One block back from the boardwalk and we felt very safe. I'd think being right in AC would be best and would not want to be driving in and out at night with the other drunk people...

I like the Wyndham Skyline also...

We travel to AC each year to attend a trade show.

We have stayed at Skyline Towers a few times, once in the penthouse. Its a nice place. I'm not very fond of AC but I have friends that really like it there.

We have also stayed at two different casinos. Even in the non-smoking rooms the rooms smelled like smoke and were musty. I'm not terribly sensitive to smoke but I can't stay there.

II have the following two (2) bedrooms Atlantic City getaway specials for the weeks of November 29-Dec. 6-2008; Nov. 30 - Dec 7,2008; December 5- December 12,2008 for $494.00 for the week.

Thanks, those are great prices, but the girls want to go away for the "real" birthday week/weekend, which is Nov. 7-14.

The Wyndham Skyline is very nice and right by the casinos. The Marriott Fairway is about 15 minutes outside town, so if they're looking for the real "Atlantic City experience," with the casinos and the shows and the view of the ocean, they'll probably want to stay at the Wyndham or one of the big casino hotels.

There are at least a couple of other timeshares in AC that are supposed to be nice--one is even swanky. That might be the Fantasea? What are the reviews like for that one?

I often stay at Trump's Taj Mahal. It is right on the boardwalk and has a great view of the ocean. They also have shuttle service to Trump Marina, Trump Plaza and the shopping outlets! They will definitely want to shop there! You can call to inquire as to the cost for the shuttle and rooms.

As for fun, other than the casinos I wouldn't venture out into the city. Many of the places in towns are closed after Labor Day. Wildwood (about a half hour drive) might have some clubs open. I would suggest looking into the clubs in AC (House of Blues, Borgata, Tropicana). House of Blues is two doors down and has a few events scheduled for that weekend (http://www.hob.com/venues/clubvenues/atlanticcity/). The lounge in the Taj casino is hopping on weekend nights too. I am sure it is the same at Borgata (although they are somewhat isolated out by the marina). They could also check out Showboat (where the HOB is located) but I haven't stayed there myself.

I have stayed at Resorts. Some rooms are small in the tower closest to the beach; some are renovated and nice. If I had to choose, I would choose Taj over Resorts. Caesars is in the middle of things with their new pier shops. It's ok but nothing I would return to and not much for the younger crowd.

I would throw in a suggestion for the borgota . even though it is in the marina area it is a great place for a weekend getaway . it maybe a little pricey though until you establish your casino cards then they are very good with comps as are most ac hotels .

There are a few timeshares in AC, but they're not that great. I stayed at Fairfield - the elevator was HONESTLY a huge, huge annoyance - sometimes a 15 - 20 minute wait! But the room was nice and kind of ocean view (partial). TUG rates it 6.52.
Fantasea is 6.27, Flagship 6.45.
So none are great. That said - they will do for the kids. I'd stay there for a birthday getaway such as you're suggesting. Teenagers find the area fun - BUT - I would not let my teenagers wander the boardwalk alone. It's not safe there. Good luck!

The Boardwalk is safe. We have been walking it for years (as have our kids) at all times of the day or night and have never had a problem. I've never seen anything more dangerous than a panhandler or an occasional drunk.

I think one or both of the "other" two timeshares has been redone and is much better than the old reviews show now.

I totally agree with you about not letting my teenagers walk the Boardwalk alone. I've seen some things considerably more dangerous than panhandlers and drunks there.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I appreciate all the comments. The girls finally settled on the Flagship Resort.
