Best option to purchase an Iphone (13-16?) without a plan

My wife's Iphone 13 went through the wash. It works....except the camera is BAD.
(It is paid for, and we have a Spectrum plan that is free this year....so we aren't looking for a 'plan'.)

I have looked online, for Iphone 13-16....it looks like 13s are a little less than $400 - all the way up to 16's at $829.

Perhaps those are the best options....but I thought I'd ask TUGgers first.

Some of the things that make me shy are "Refurbished", as well as sites like Temu (and one being called 'Black Market'....that would make me leery.)

Any ideas, thanks.

We have purchased pre-owned iPhones on swappa repeatedly with great success! My iPhone 13 is still going (for now). The sellers have ratings and we have always been happy with the transaction and product we have received.

I purchased it new and my DH always wants me to upgrade. I don't like to upgrade to the newest model until I have no other choice.

You can buy refurbished phones through Apple if you want to buy from a known retailer

Amazon also sells refurbished iphones

Most refurbishing is done through 3 party contract suppliers

Refurbing comes in different grades

So the prices vary

Refurbished has worked fine for me, but I get them from Amazon or Best Buy.

If you purchase a new one on Apple's site you can do a trade in with the old one. They might reject it if it's ruined though.

For an iPhone, I would buy refurbished from Apple. I buy refurbished Samsungs from Back Market and have been happy with them.

I've bought several new Samsung phones on ebay for a lot less than I could find anywhere else. I won't touch a refurbished anything after a bad experience years ago.

I've gotten refurbished I*Phones on Amazon. They work fine but the battery health isn't as good as a new phone.

I recently bought an iPhone 16 pro on swappa based on a recommendation here, and am quite satisfied. I'd go for a condition of "Good" as it looks like you don't save a lot vs new with some of the "Mint" ones.
