Every year the Las Vegas Review-Journal newspaper holds a "Best of" contest, with many, many categories. Its just been completed, and you can see it here. Its interesting, but take it with a grain of salt, though. It calls the best Italian Restaurant Olive Garden, and the best Pizza place Pizza Hut. And remember that the contest is from a local view.

The page won't display for me. I'd really like to get this info as we're going back to LV in September.

We get those regularly in Orange County. I think it tends to show a bit more of the demographic of the local population. Usually, Olive Garden winds up with votes as best Italian, Pizza Hut winds up with best pizza, and Outback winds up as best steak house. Ugggh.

But then, we have a lot of retired folks on a limited budget here, so that kind of result is not that surprising.

I haven't looked at the list yet, but before I do, I would wager hard money that Krispy Kreme was voted best donut. :)

Personally, my opinion of Las Vegas donuts went waaaay down when LaMarr's left the area. :)

OK, I looked, and before long I could predict the answers before I even clicked on the category. Starbucks for best coffee, Red Lobster for best Seafood Restaurant, Taco Bell for best tacos, In-N-Out for best Hamburgers, TGI Fridays for best appetizers, Subway for best sub sandwich. The only thing missing was Weinerschnitzel for best hot dog. That honor went to Costco. :)

I think maybe I'll pass on these "Best of" Recommendations. ;)

I found the entertainment category much more interesting than the restaurant one.

That reminds me of the interview I saw in the newspaper today, they asked four Diamondback players where they liked to eat and they all said - In and Out Burger. Jeez. I haven't even eaten there! See what culinary delights I've been missing!

I have eaten there, and believe me, you're not missing anything. Dry hamburgers that are a little less flavorful than cardboard, mealy french fries, and a halfway decent chocolate shake that has had less chocolate in it over the past few years. Fatburger on the strip is much better. Heck, McDonald's is better, and IMO McDonald's sucks!

I would bet you that if they had a "best ribs" category, Tony Roma's would have taken the prize!

As you mentioned, this is from a mostly local's point of view. In Vegas, I'm not sure a lot of locals will go to the strip or any other tourist trap for a meal. Even if there are restaurants by some of the best chef's in America there.

For that matter, as you mentioned most people don't spend a lot of money when they go out to dinner. While we do enjoy a few (very few) really nice meals each year, outlets like Maccaroni Grill, Chili's, Applebee's, On the Border, Olive Garden, Red Robin et.....get more attention from us.

A limited view will produce limited results.
