I've been looking at the different Hilton Head properties, trying to decide which one I'd like to trade into.
I thought SurfWatch looked nice, then I read where someone said it isnt beachfront and thats what I'm looking for.

Which ones would you recommend or not recommend if trading into Hilton Head?

I was just looking at the Grand Ocean and it looks beachfront and then again in other pics it doesnt.

Grande Ocean,Barony,Monarch are on the beach but that does not mean you have an oceanview.

The Surfwatch building are very modern and set back further from the beach across a small road. There is a long wooden walkway to the beach. At the end of the walkway is a very nice pool/cabana raised area with restrooms with a few steps to the beach. SW has some 3bd units ,the others do not. Closer to the mid/north end of the island.

Grande Ocean leads the group for location to Coligny Circle and Pope Ave area and it's proximity to Sea Pines and the nicest bike trails on the island. There are about 8 buildings with multiple pools and amenities. It is considered the Grande Dame of HH. South end of the island. GO has both bike and car passes to Sea Pines which is closeby.

Monarch is in Sea Pines, less formal decor and twin beds in the 2nd bedroom rather than doubles or queens like the other three. It is on the beach and there are many who love the resort and location.

I love Barony at the North End of the island and it's location on the beach, massive gym, nice lobby area and a spa. There are 4 bldgs near the beach and 2 bldgs across the way next to the Westin called Garden Villas. This is where most exchangers go. There are 2 mastersuites and it is a 4-5 minute walk to the beach. I have stayed in GV and one of the 4 main bldgs. There are tot pools and water fountains if you have little ones.

Both GO and Barony have outdoor and indoor pools. I do not know about the other two.

Hilton Head is a small island so you can get anywhere in a few minutes.

SW not across any street that I'm aware of.

Small street? I don't beleive that to be true. I've never stayed there, but toured, and while it is set back somewhat from the beach, its not across any street that I'm aware of. I am an owner at GO, but really liked the SW layout. It would have been nicer if it was as close as GO to the beach, but personally I don't see it as a major problem, except for the mobiliely challenged. Its maybe 300 yards from rooms to beach.

Regards.

At Surfwatch they have golf carts to take you to the beach if you want.

I have driven there as well and go to HH every year. SW physical address is on 5th street off Burke Beach Rd. But if you drive further down Burke Beach Rd and take a left at the end on Second street you will then have a better view of the SW walkway and marsh area and the only SW bldg that is close to the ocean. You can see this clearly on google maps.

5th is the front entrance but you can access from Second St. We completely passed the 5th street entrance and took the left onto 2nd then into the back lot of SW coming out onto 5th. From google earth you can see how far the walkway is to the beach from the main buildings and you can see the path from that side that runs to Marriott SW from Second.

In fact it is a good way to view all the Marriott resorts and the proximity to the beaches.

On google maps it is not defined, only on google earth.

Hope this helps.

We stayed at Grande Ocean and love the hard beach for riding bikes. We also love the location and the fact that we had passes to Sea Pines. Sea Pines is a gated community with large trees adorned with long strands of Spanish moss and very nice bike trails and interesting wildlife. Harbor town is located in Sea Pines.

We toured Surf Watch and I was very impressed. I loved the units and the grounds. The grounds have more open space and I would imagine feel less crowed during peak season. The pools are also nice. There are two out door pools, one in the middle of the complex and the other out by the ocean at the end of the board walk. The indoor pool just opened this year. It is far nicer then any of the other indoor Marriott pools I have seen. There is a lot of glass and it appears that the walls can retract to give it an out door feel in hot weather.

From what I saw I loved the resort and would not hesitate to stay there on another visit. The walk is longer to the beach then at other Hilton Head resorts, but it can also be interesting if you take the time to stop and look at the wildlife in the marsh areas.

We will be trying Monarch for New Years but might have selected Surf Watch had we taken the tour prior to make our Monarch reservation.

I also do not recall a road crossing the property. There are two roads that lead into the parking lots but I believe they do not go through the property.

There is actually a small road that the resort is built around since the Ocean Surf Watch is a bit of a trek if you are in a garden villa to go to the beach. However, there is a pool and cabanas and pool grill (and bathrooms :p) literally at the edge of the sand dunes.

I wouldn't stay away form it for that reason. It is a nice resort. Our favorite however, is the Barony.:hi:

It looks like a hit some button or something and zapped out half my message>... There is a small road that the Ocean Vista is on one side of and the Oceanside villas are on the other side. The road leads to a very exclusive small neighborhood that has no ohter access in or out except this road. However, people drive slowly and it looks like one is traveling through the resort, so I can see why some do not think there is a road there.
