Hi everyone. I am expanding my II trade request for next summer. I already put in Grand Ocean, but was wondering what people though about other ocean front Hilton Head resorts for younger children? (never been to HHI before)

Thanks, Jim

As you may know, Grande Ocean is the favorite on many levels, but the other members of the "big three", Barony & Surfwatch, are just fine. There will be no noticeable difference for younger children, imho. Units (hard to tell difference) and pools are top-notch and amenities are fantastic. Activities will be similar.

Barony & Surfwatch are fantastic, and you won't be disappointed in the least, and Monarch is very close behind (but don't list it until late in your search).

You will want to get one of the "big three". Monarch was not initially built by Marriott, and it's just different. Still, it's oceanfront and kids won't know the difference as long as they have pools and beach. But you will, so shoot for the others. Hope you get it.

Just got back from HHI! We have been going for the past 7 years with our kids (8, 6, 4, 2 now). Haven't stayed at all of them (lol), but have stayed at Disney, Surf Watch, and Barony. All were great.

Barony has a zero entry pool, and two sprinklers, Surf watch has a sprinkler but no zero entry pool, Disney has a slide (and a life guard)but no zero entry.

Beach access: Barony closest and easiest, Surf Watch second, Disney not on beach but does have a shuttle and a separate beach house with a pool.

Activities: Disney is easily the best of the three (not even close). Barony was good, and Surf Watch needs improvement.

Rooms: Marriott's are more upscale, Disney more "rustic."

Any other questions I'll try to answer them.

When we are at the beach, we like to beach/pool hop, so we like a facility that has a pool close enough to the beach to do so. Surfwatch does have a pool near the beach, but it is rather small. Barony has a zero entry pool (which is close enough to beach/pool hop), and is awesome for the littlest ones.

The treck to the beach at surfwatch is too much of a schlep for us. The chair hogging at Barony for the shade areas was ridiculous IMO. My first vote is for Grande Ocean(great pools, all close to the beach), then Barony. Surfwatch would be at my bottom. Did not like it a bit, unless you just have to have 3 bdrms.

Laura, do you know that SurfWatch has another pool, not just the one closest to the ocean? It's up at the two Oceanside buildings, middle of the property, and isn't what I would call "small" at all. Plus it has the fountain area where you can always find little kids having a ball, and a good-size hot tub.

did not know that. I will change my post to reflect that. Thanks for pointing it out.

Love Barony

The top three are Grande Ocean, Barony and Surfwatch.

Barony is great for kids. Good choice for pools and beach. I found Surfwatch a little too far from the beach for little kids unless you get someone to drive you up with a golf cart.

I would also look at resorts on Sea Pine Plantation and Shipyard Plantations both plantations should have lots of activities for children.

We visited the Disney resort last Spring and loved it, even though it was not right on the beach. They have tons of activities and small kids would be in heaven there.
