This is the main reason for our AMEX Bonvoy Card. I do like the free night hotel stay that offsets the card fee.

Amex Bonvoy does not provide free primary insurance for a rental vehicle in the Unites States, while Chase pursuits do.

Amex Bonvoy can provide primary car insurance but it will cost a reasonable amount for it. I think it was between $20-$25 per rental, not per week when I used Amex card. But you need to sign up with Amex to activate it. Since I have found that Ritz Carlton, United Club, United Explorer, etc offer the same coverage for free, I have migrated to free. Save the $20-$25 a rental for gas.

I used the Bonvoy card in the past for MVC MF. But I'm going to go ahead and use my Chase Sapphire. It "should" be counted as travel. So I get that 3% points. However, you get a 25% bump when you use the points for flights. I fly for free but flying by the seat of my pants just seems to age my hubby. lol So I have been using my Sapphire points, especially for international travel or when we absolutely, positively have to be somewhere and I don't want to add extra stay days to insure that.

I think our flight to Morocco was 20k points each. Our RT direct flight from DCA to NAS was maybe $150/person (which is lower than the taxes I would have to pay if I flew standby.) IAD-YVR was around $100/person. That 25% bonus suits us well.
