You drive this every day? It was a nice drive - but I'd think it could get to be tedious if driven too often. You have a lucky situation, I think. SF is such a vibrant city - I really enjoy visiting here.

I'm one of them. Well, hundreds of miles, anyway. It was the same when I lived in Hawaii. I'd see traffic snarled forever, and I'd ask myself, "Who ARE all these people??" I'm happy to leave some of my hard earned money in this City, and support local culture whenever I'm here. We try to eat in locally-owned restaurants, and do what we can to make it worthwhile to wait on us. (I am a pleasant patron, and a VERY generous tipper.)

We drove out from SFO to the East Bay on I-80 over the Oakland Bay Bridge, so decided to return today to the City via the Golden Gate Bridge. The toll was slightly higher, but not worth worrying about. It was a nice drive coming around from the north side of things. You live in a really beautiful area.

I think we've decided on a plan for tomorrow. Going to walk down from the WM to spend the majority of the day at the SF Museum of Modern Art, then late lunch/early dinner at Yank Sing, then back to the WM to get ready for our much-anticipated theater experience - Hamilton at the Orpheum Theater tomorrow night. The weather is clear but there is a strong, cold wind, so kind of harsh trying to walk around much. I think Uber is going to get some money from us tomorrow.

We're planning to go to SFMOMA, probably on our way back from Maui since they will be closed the full day we are in San Francisco on our way over. Might be a good day to do lunch at Yank Sing as well.

I'll be interested to hear your take on Hamilton. It was just announced that the filmed version of a performance done with the original cast in 2016 will be broadcast in 2021. That might be when I see it.

Me too. When I told Paula that Dave was going to see Hamilton, she asked if I had interest in seeing it. It's playing in SLC- not a difficult drive from home. I said, 'not particularly'. Rap/hip-hop is just not my thing. I dunno, though. Hamilton might be the thing to win me over.

Jim, I've gotten input from so many people, and people whose opinions I trust, that Hamilton is great. Some of them have seen it multiple times. But it just isn't something that has grabbed me as something I wanted to see. You and I may end up being the only people who have never seen the live show.

Note that the location on Stevenson Street is only open 11 to 3 Monday through Friday, and 10 to 4 Weekends and Holidays. (Don't know about the other location.) We got there about an hour before closing, and had plenty of time to eat. They wheel carts past the table, and you can ask for whatever is there. Thanks for the recommendations everyone. Was well worth it.

For those who are curious, Yank Sing is a Michelin-starred Chinese dim sum restaurant. Yes, it is an excellent (and upscale) Chinese restaurant, but it has prices to match. It is very much out of the norm that way for the usual Chinatown dim sum restaurants.

Normally, I can take my whole family for a dim sum lunch for 1/4 of the price of lunch at Yank Sing. My teens love dim sum, so we do it often but Yank Sing is only special occasion dining for us.

Just reporting back about the Hamilton performance: Absolutely outstanding! Now I get what all the fuss was about. I would gladly pay to see this again.

I am not a fan of rap or hip-hop, so wasn't sure what to expect. This production was spot-on with its delivery of a lot of words, in exact precision with the musical score. The primary stage set was simple but diverse, with action areas emphasized through lighting, and a clever turntable floor that moved actors around without them having to walk. Cast was invested in their timing, and I didn't see where anyone missed a vocal cue. Singing voices were quite excellent, characterizations were quite specific to the individual, and the message was easily understood and appreciated. Not only did I take away an interesting interpreted version of early American History, I also saw the human side of the people who played such a big part in the American story. There were a few standouts in the cast, notably the part of Thomas Jefferson, and most especially the part of Eliza, Alexander Hamilton's wife.

I'm not sure what I was expecting, but this was not what I expected at all. My experience with this musical form is the aggressive "street rap" stuff, with excessive profanity and pounding beatbox tempo noise. In Hamilton, there was nothing like that. The delivery style was in the genre, with a staccato delivery of tight, rhyming lyrics, but it wasn't hard to follow the storyline at all. The one caveat: Pay attention, and listen closely, because they say a LOT of words in a very fast style. The performance was nearly three hours long, and went by very quickly. When it was over, I wanted to see and hear more.

For anyone questioning whether to see this show, I'd highly recommend it. Suspend your disbelief and preconceived ideas of how it is/was. Let the story give you its message. I was very surprised, and highly entertained. It was very, very good.

I am looking forward to seeing the movie next year, with the original Broadway cast. If this was that good with a touring cast, I can't imagine how it would be with the actors who started it all, especially Lin-Manuel Miranda, who wrote the show.

What a spot on review Dave! I am not the biggest live theater buff but my kids insisted that I join them and I loved it. One of my favorite things was feeling the excitement and engagement of the audience. I'm dying to see it again, even more so after your review.
