Being charged for SVN fee--thought resale buyers don't pay it.

It's $45 and some odd cents, and I was sure we wouldn't have to pay an SVN fee. I have called a couple of times about it, they said we didn't have to pay it, then we get the bill a month later again.

What's the fee, and is it something I have to pay? I wonder if the former owner didn't pay that fee and that is why I am being charged for it.

Almost forgot, it is Sheraton Broadway Plantation.

I might be tempted to pay it and try to use StarOptions to exchange to another property. And if they deny me, I'd show them the letter and a copy of my canceled check. They can't demand money for SVN dues and then deny membership.

Hi Cindy,

Here's how you can tell whether you have "accidentally" gotten in SVN. In MSC, click on "What I Own" and find the week in question. If under "Reservation System" it reads "SVN", then your account is set up as being in SVN. Otherwise it will say "N/A" (signifying a resale account). To determine what the balance due is for, click on "Account Balances" toward the bottom of your account. In the Maintenance Fees section of the next page, click on "Click Here to pay your maintenance fees". On the next page click on "View Maintenance Fee Details And Make Payments". This page will give you the details of the ownership including the prior owner's assessments and payments. If for some reason, the payments fall short of the assessments, that is why the system is showing that you owe a balance. If this is the case, you have two options - either pay it (to maintain your credit and avoid further late fees) and then go after the seller to get reimbursed, or tell the seller they had a balance due and ask them to pay it directly.

You wont have to pay it. SVN does not transfer on the resale market for the Sheraton Broadway Plantation. As reccommended, I would get on MyStarCentral and check your account for your SVN membership status...you can also get a letter from the condo association.

I had to pay it. They were charging a late fee and interest to the former owner, but I was stuck with the charges. I just paid it.
