I have a search in Interval for New Orleans. Any unit any size during Mardi Gras and Jazz weekends. Then Quarter house for any time between February and June.

For the second time in a week, I've woken up to find a confirmation for another New Orleans resort (other than Quarter House) for the end of May. When I called to cancel, the rep acknowledges that what they confirmed me for wasn't in my search, and apologizes, and returns my week to a pending search. But there goes 20 minutes of my time.

What if I didn't compulsively check my II account every day. If I had gone past the 24 hours I'm sure they wouldn't have acknowledged the mistake.

Has anyone else had this happen? I really think this is retribution by an evil agent when I went ballistic last week when it first occurred, and then instead of returning my week to a pending search, the agent "helping me" gave me a cancellation replacement week.

If this is on the same search, I have a feeling that the restriction to only Quarterhouse for a subset of time is not being honored because the specific dates for event weeks are requesting any and all resorts (i hope this makes sense to you what I am trying to convey). I simply don't think their software is able to distinguish that for this one set of time you are okay with any resort, but for another period of time you only want QH. My suggestion is to either separate the searches or drop one of the requests because the software simply can't do what you are asking it to do.

I can see their program being "confused" with having basically two different searches running using one week. But if the system allows you to do it, it should work and I can empathize with your frustration.

Just a note though on a cancellation week. I take it you caught your mixup within 24 hours and when you called in to cancel, you were given a cancellation week, rather than your original week back? Be careful because when that happened to me once, and then I tried to cancel another match, I was told I couldn't because it was a cancellation week. It took escalation through several levels to get notes put on my file that I could essentially use this as my regular week. Even then I had to call in to use it to confirm something.

So don't accept a cancellation week even if an agent assures you that it's "the same as your original week."

My rant over now, I notice that this has happened to you a few times and it would seem you're not having any problem having your exchange cancelled and your search re-established.

One of the things that I really like about RCI, you can just cancel a hold online instead of having to call in to cancel a confirmed week. Since I'm wearing my tinfoil hat today, I might as well give my perspective that it's a chance to try to sell you on something you don't really want, as well as upselling you to extending your membership, depositing weeks you don't want to, etc. etc.

I wasn't "offered" a cancellation week, the rep just did it and I didn't catch it until I logged in five minutes later. Then it took another set of phone calls to fix that first rep's mistake. Interval backdated the cancellation week to its original expiration date, which is some two years out, and supposedly refunded the exchange fee that I had paid that was forfeited by that first rep (I haven't checked with my credit card yet because I expect it takes a few days to show up). And Interval assured me the cancellation week had the same trading power that my original week had.

Bev, Are you saying that I won't be able to use the cancellation week the same as the original week for confirming/canceling within 24 hours?

15 minutes later: called Interval and did a dummy confirmation while I was on the phone, and then had the rep cancel it online, to make sure the ability to cancel was available for the cancellation week.

Alex, you would think a computer can tell I'm looking for different weeks for different resorts, so it must be rep sitting there and making the match. But I'm going to take the middle and end of May out of my search completely and maybe that will help in doing less erroneous matches.

Yes, that is a glitch in II.

Another glitch is my searches on Kauai for a 2 bedroom asking for sleeping for six people. I am using a Custom House week to request something at the Marriott's Kauai Beach Villas resort. No, I keep getting matched to studios and one bedrooms. I am able to request sleeping for 6 because that is how Marriott's Custom House is listed in II, it says sleeps six.

II doesn't seem to want to honor that search as a 2 bedroom. The fees are very high on CH. It's going up another $100 this year. :(

I'm glad you are not having the same experience I did. I think there are different "replacement weeks" and you got one that was easier to deal with than I did. Sorry, didn't mean to scare you, but it's one of those things where they tell you on the phone that, "Yeah, yeah, it'll be fine," and when you have a problem, it's suggested that, "You must have misunderstood." It's frustrating when, frankly, we know more about how their systems work than a lot of the people working there.

I hope things work out for you and your match comes through soon.

I think the issue is that CH is a 1BR unit and a search only allows you to search for a like size unit. When you place your search, do you indicate that you will only accept 2BR or larger. Or will it not allow you to select something larger than a 1BR to confirm in to?

The wording in the II Buyers Guide is as follows:
MVCI Owners of one-bedroom unit Weeks at Marriott’s Aruba Ocean Club,
Marriott’s Custom House, Marriott’s Grande Vista, Marriott’s Kauai Beach
Club, Marriott’s Maui Ocean Club, and Marriott’s Mountain Valley Lodge at
Breckenridge are eligible to request two-bedroom units at MVCI Resorts
that do not have one-bedroom units.

Since Kauai Beach Club has 1BR units, I would think Custom House it not able to request 2BR units there.
