Hello - I've been researching my options for getting rid of my Bluegreen timeshare points for several months now. I'm so glad I found this forum, it has been very helpful so far.
I have a remaining mortgage balance of about $6k. I have never used the points in the 5+ years I have owned so I am desperate to get rid of it. I have spoken to several timeshare exit companies that all seem very convincing but also feel like scammers. They all asked for money up front to begin the process. After reading through posts on this site, I've decided my best option is to just go directly through BG. I spoke to their Customer Care department several times and would love to hear about others who have successfully gone through the ownership release process. BG makes it sound very quick and easy.
My plan is to pay off my mortgage balance, which is not much more than what all of the timeshare release companies charge for their services. Once it's paid off, BG has said the whole process should take less than 60 days. I am the sole owner and unmarried, so shouldn't be any issues with needing additional signatures on the forms. I was told as soon as my balance is paid off, I can contact them and I will receive the necessary paperwork within 2 weeks, either via USPS or email, whichever I prefer. I will choose email to expedite the process. They said once I return the paperwork, I will receive copies of everything and will be released of all future obligations.
This just seems too good to be true. And in turning down several of the exit companies, they warned me that it could take years for BG to follow through. The representative I spoke with at BG assured me that all calls are recorded so any information she gave me has to be accurate. I also emailed her a recap of our conversation detailing the process as she explained it and that it should be completed within 60 days. I wanted to have it in writing. Does this sound legit? I realize I'm going to have to pay several thousand dollars to get out of this no matter which route I take, but it's still a scary process and I want to make sure I'm making the right decision by going directly through BG. Has anyone else successfully gone through the ownership release process? Did it really go that quickly and you were free of your timeshare?
Thank you so much for any insights or advice.
