Beginning Ownership Release Process - Bluegreen Vacations

Hello - I've been researching my options for getting rid of my Bluegreen timeshare points for several months now. I'm so glad I found this forum, it has been very helpful so far.

I have a remaining mortgage balance of about $6k. I have never used the points in the 5+ years I have owned so I am desperate to get rid of it. I have spoken to several timeshare exit companies that all seem very convincing but also feel like scammers. They all asked for money up front to begin the process. After reading through posts on this site, I've decided my best option is to just go directly through BG. I spoke to their Customer Care department several times and would love to hear about others who have successfully gone through the ownership release process. BG makes it sound very quick and easy.

My plan is to pay off my mortgage balance, which is not much more than what all of the timeshare release companies charge for their services. Once it's paid off, BG has said the whole process should take less than 60 days. I am the sole owner and unmarried, so shouldn't be any issues with needing additional signatures on the forms. I was told as soon as my balance is paid off, I can contact them and I will receive the necessary paperwork within 2 weeks, either via USPS or email, whichever I prefer. I will choose email to expedite the process. They said once I return the paperwork, I will receive copies of everything and will be released of all future obligations.

This just seems too good to be true. And in turning down several of the exit companies, they warned me that it could take years for BG to follow through. The representative I spoke with at BG assured me that all calls are recorded so any information she gave me has to be accurate. I also emailed her a recap of our conversation detailing the process as she explained it and that it should be completed within 60 days. I wanted to have it in writing. Does this sound legit? I realize I'm going to have to pay several thousand dollars to get out of this no matter which route I take, but it's still a scary process and I want to make sure I'm making the right decision by going directly through BG. Has anyone else successfully gone through the ownership release process? Did it really go that quickly and you were free of your timeshare?

Thank you so much for any insights or advice.

No one (including BG) will want your Timeshare Points as long as you owe money on them. You were smart to avoid those "money up front" thieves.

Before paying BG to take them off your hands why not offer them here on TUG instead? It will definitely save you some money! TUG has a FREE Timeshare Giveaway section and you can post them there.

Best of luck, and welcome to TUG.

I'd be happy to give them away to someone, but either way, I will have to pay off my mortgage balance. Do you have any idea how long a transfer process would take if someone were interested in taking them off my hands once the mortgage is paid? My main goal is to free myself of the BG burden as quickly as possible and also avoid paying any additional maintenance fees/dues. My next billing is in March 2022, so I'm in a bit of a time crunch.

Thanks for the reassurance I made the right decision to stop talking to the exit companies. They are just as good of sales people as BG.

I can't tell you for sure, but I would guess sixty to ninety days to transfer the title.

I have no idea how your finances are, but I would go ahead and advertise them right away with a clause in the ad: "Points will be transferred free and clear". Advertise them and immediately pay them off once you get a nibble so you can continue with the transfer into someone else's name.

Or, alternatively, post them on eBay for $1 and sell them to the highest bidder (obviously free and clear).

In any event, you definitely are in a "time crunch" so be sure to start rolling with whatever you do decide to do.

Maybe others can add some additional helpful information for you.
