Beachwoods: Takeover by DRI

It was recently announced that DRI acquired Gold Key Resorts, including the Beachwoods resort in Kitty Hawk, NC. DRI has tried for years to take over the Board at Royal Dunes but we have so far held them off through vigilant Board members and active owner participation in Board elections, but we may not be able to hold them off forever. Are there any owners at Beachwoods who are now concerned about owning at a DRI resort?

You bet I'm concerned. I'm also saddened.

Barrier Island Station Kitty Hawk has certainly gone through some major changes in the last 18 months. I was thrilled when the news was shared that BIS had been purchased by Gold Key Resorts. I was very familiar with this Group already and the changes that took place in Virginia Beach over the last several years due in part to this Group. Many of the former employees who had been with BIS were retained at the resort. I'm sure this newest news has their heads spinning. I tried last night to catch up on things here on TUG. I have absolutely no familiarity with DRI. I've heard about them and I generally had negative thoughts when I would read about them because that was what was being posted for the most part.

I don't care for the idea of being swallowed up by this Group, but I don't have a say in the matter. It's a done deal. Chris, on TUG, notified me and started a thread yesterday. He shared a video with Bucky Houser (GKR) and David Palmer (DRI) talking about the acquisition. Over the next two months, they anticipate completing the absorption.

It still all seems like a sick joke. First the best thing that could have happened to Barrier Island KH, now the worst thing that could have happened. Go from a small independent resort, to a good size company with 6 timeshare resorts now to this massive corporate monstrosity that is DRI. Hopefully this doesn't interrupt the renovation at Beachwoods ( formerly BIS-KH).

They forgot to mention sales weasels trying to coerce owners into converting their Gold Key into DRI points, through lies and/or intimidation. They also forgot to mention DRI's unbridled love for MF increases.
