Yes, very sad! I just wonder how he could have sustained such severe blunt force trauma.

I love roller coasters. In my experience, all modern roller coasters are well designed to provide adequate restraint. I have no problems raising my hands throughout the entire road and trusting the restraining features of the coaster. In this case I have to wonder - did the rider do something to circumvent the restraints? Or was there some physical situation that was outside the bounds of the restraining system design.

FWIW - by far the scariest coaster I have ever ridden is the Jack Rabbit at Kennywood, near Pittsburgh. That was the only time in my life where I felt was in actual danger of being pitched from a car, particularly riding in the rear car. I did this with my best friend from college and each of our teen-age sons. Both of the kids shared the sentiment, and agreed it was the most awesome roller coaster they had been on. That was two days after we had visited Cedar Point.

It’s been about 35 years since I’ve been on a roller coaster. Space Mountain at Disneyland was a once and done because I felt the dark ride prevented me from anticipating movements and protecting my neck. And my back protested the entire time on Big Thunder Mountain. I imagine those are both pretty tame compared to a “real” roller coaster. No more for me!
