Hi, we are booked at bay club for the second week in September. What have you done while there? Looking for ideas, suggestions as this is my first time in Hawaii.
Like beaches you visited, who had the best deal on beach chairs. I seen the swap thread and will post as it gets closer, but it does not seem very active.

Thanks

@Lovinglife_30 - It's not recent, but here's a thread from our stay at Bay Club in 2018. It has details of beaches and other places of interest (as well as suggestions from others that may interest you).

What do you want from a beach? A-bay beach is nearby, both Hapuna and Mauna Kea are nice beaches. Be wary, this is the Pacific, not a swimming pool. You can get in the water at all these beaches, but I recommend you do it with low surf.

If the surf is up, and you want to see wild wave action (see - DON"T get close), the tide pool 2 exits closer to Kona from the airport is the place to be. Summer is usually lower surf than winter, but I've seen big surf in the summer, as well.

If the surf is REALLY up (and there will be warnings on the local news) you don't want to anywhere near a beach. (I have seen video of a huge surf splash over a 2 STORY BUILDING!

We were there for 3 weeks 1.5 years ago. How long are you there? The BI is BIG. So what do you like? We enjoyed Ziplining in Havi. Also Lapakahi State Park. Volcano National Park. Hapuna Beach. While there we felt the earth rock beneath our butt (earth quake). Two Step. NPS Hale o Keawe. Night time snorkeling with the Manta Rays. Town of Hilo. Greenwell Farms Coffee. Kona Coffee Living History Farm. Numerous Waterfalls. There is a near by walk of an ancient Hawaiian trail with petroglyphs - Ala Kahakai National Historic Trail (King's Trail).

In 1 week you will not begin to cover the Island of Hawaii. So pick a couple. Do not kill yourselves trying to see and do too much.

If you are a member Costco is the best place for Gas, Alcohol, Beach Chairs. For average every day groceries we preferred Walmart to Safeway. NO Mainland Banks or ATM's.

For beach chairs, we used to rent them from Snorkel Bob’s a few miles north at the Shops at Mauna Lani. Their current prices are $42 for two chairs for a week. Their chairs have always seemed kind of cheap though. On our last trip back in February we rented from Hula Kai at Kings Shops in Waikoloa, just around the corner a little bit from the Bay Club. They have much nicer Tommy Bahama chairs for $35/chair for a week. So, two chairs were $70, but it was well worth it for the better chairs.

For chairs you may want to look into buying them. Sometimes it's cheaper than renting.

Love the big island: plan on visiting way more often now because the best value for points at HGVC are all there. Kona is my favorite area to visit, but it is a bit of a drive from Waikaloa. has anyone found any resorts they like in Kona? The Worldmark is the only one I really know.

The only downside to the Bay Club, from what I’ve heard is you don’t get access to the pools at the other HGVC resorts.

We stayed at several timeshares in Kona. The one we like best is Club Wyndham Kona Hawaiian Resort. We stayed at the Worldmark one year and didn't care for it much at all. We like to sit out on the lanai and the a/c unit blew hot air out onto the lanai, which was small with no view.

Kona Coast is nice as well, but a little bit away from Kona.

Forgot to respond to this. At the Bay Club you do have access to the pool at Kohala Suites, but not at Kingsland or the Hilton Waikoloa. You can get a day pass for the Hilton, I don't know what the cost is for that. We are more beach people than pool people. The pool at the Bay Club was fine for when we wanted to use it.
