Just got back from Marriott Grande Ocean and Disney's Hilton Head resort.

I think we got really lucky on room assignment at Grande Ocean. We were assigned the Sand Castle building, 5th floor, back corner unit/ocean side - we had a wonderful view of the ocean. I called a few weeks ago and requested high floor with possibly a view of the ocean (not believing I would get it). I asked the girl at the front desk how we managed that and she said we just happened (as a Marriott owner) to get a unit that wasn't requested by a Grande Ocean owner. :D I was extremely impressed with Grande Ocean. It's a beautiful resort. It was really cold this last week, but we still had a good time.

We also had a second unit at Disney's Hilton Head resort since we had a large family group traveling together. It was nice too - Disney's 3 bedroom Grand Villa with a fireplace - boy did we use that fireplace!

I probably won't ever go to Hilton Head in November again (brrr) - I think I'll stick with October or May.

While we're going to Aruba in Feb, I'm really looking forward to our August week in 2009. Our all-time favorite is Maui, but from the east coast we can't get there every year. HHI and the GO is a close second. Everything about HHI and the GO is special. I just love the bike paths and beaches.

Our grand plan one day is to spend a month in Hilton Head one day, in either Sept or Oct.

Regards.

Our grand plan one day is to spend a month in Hilton Head....
My grand plan was to MOVE to the Hilton Head area.

Mission accomplished! :D

Debbie - You were unfortunate enough to be here during a week when temps averaged about 20 degrees below normal. It should get close to 70 tomorrow and into the 60s for the rest of the week. Not Aruba temps, but much better than the Northeast!

we are at the marriott monarch last week and through thanksgiving.
last year it set a record high in hilton head during this time of the year.
do not give up on hilton head in mid november, you just caught an unusually cool week.
actually its been cold in florida also.

Thanks for the encouragement about the weather in November for Hilton Head. I was really surprised by how cold it was. It was still beautiful, though. ;)

There were a couple of days where it was in the low 60's and we picked one of those days for a trip to Savannah (we ate at Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House - I'm still full). I counted 17 bowls of veggies on the table, chicken and dumplings, fried chicken, barbeque, and beef stew. What a spread and it was all good.

Friends of ours that went with us to Hilton Head did a timeshare tour through Coral Resorts and got 8 free trolley tour tickets for Savannah. We found out they were worth $25.00 a piece, plus they got $70 for doing the tour - so $270 for taking the timeshare tour wasn't bad.

On Hilton Head we ate at a place called the Sea Shack. It looked like a hole in the wall, but it was really good. I heard about it on a Rachel Ray episode.

I would love to go back sometime and rent bikes and do the trails.
