TS free. Used to own at Massanutten, Ozarks, Myrtle Beach.
We did something to ours. When we press the remote there is a delay and then the door opens or shuts. When it shuts it stops a foot from the ground. We can manually push it the rest of the way. Anyone know how to fix this?

For the first time in around 10 years of having a cat sitter, we prepared for the possibility of an electrical outage. Lucky thing, too. The house lost power causing the garage door to not work. (The cat could still get in his door.) The sweet young cat sitter, who on her own had called us a couple of times to tell us that the cat was OK, lost the remote. She had put it in a bag with our newspapers and their maid threw the whole bag out! We found that just like TV remotes, there are generic garage door openers.....I don't know if that would help you or not.

Check both lights at the bottom of the door to make sure they are still align correctly. Also, there is an adjustment screw to lower the door.
Finally, check the maker of your garage door opener(Sears, Chamblerin, Genie) for trouble shooting tips.

Thanks folks. I still have to check these out. Procrastination is so eay.

Ours is on tracks, and we have had similar problems. If yours is too make sure there is nothing on the tracks to keep the rollers from rolling down all the way, or that the tracks aren't bent.

Most likely, all you need to do is adjust the screw or knob on the opener that controls where the door stops, both when it opens and when it closes. However, it is also possible that, if your opener uses a geer (wheel) with teeth to move a bicycle-like chain, that some of the teeth may have broken off, causing the chain to slip.

BTW, one can buy replacement remotes from whoever manufactured your opener, or third-party remotes, online or at Home Depot or Lowes. I installed a remote keypad outside of my garage, so I can open+close it from outside the house.

update

Tried the screw adjustment mentioned here to no avail. Lights were aligned. Could never get through to a person on the phone at the manufacturer. Trouble-shooting in the booklet did not address this problem. Called local company that installed door. Never heard of this problem before. Came out. A screw had fallen out somewhere, so cable didn't latch immediately. Quick fix. I wasn't home at the time so wonder what the bill will be.
Anyway, now the door closes and the stray cat doesn't get into the garage.
