DW was telling me about this from a discussion on Facebook, but we've also directly experienced it. Our checkout text at Marriott's Grande Ocean and Legends Edge both asked us to strip the beds and put the linenes in the entry way. This is the first year we've seen this. I know the norm about putting soiled towels on the bathroom floor, tub or shower and also about running the diswasher. But hadn't had them ask about strip ping beds. I know that kind of goes back to the old days of timeshare or even independent resorts which often ask this of guests checking out.

Have you experienced this yet at any Marriott Vacation Club resorts? I often have a question about stripping bed linens. Do you leave the duvet on the bed and just strip the duvet cover? I wouldn't think they wash the duvet itself after every guest? Though perhaps they do.

We did at our last two stays.

It was announced at the owners gathering at St Kitts Marriott last week. They stated it was to expedite room change over. You strip everything.

The duvet should definitely be changed after every guest, if they didn't,.......eewww!

For many a decade when they used comforters, the comforter wasn't changed after every guest. The duvet is inside the duvet cover. We wash our duvet cover at home far more often than we wash the duvet.

I'd say stripping the beds feels far less premium to me. HGVC doesn't actually ask you to do anything in the last few I've stayed at (McAlpin, Ocean Oak, MarBrisa), though I'm sure they appreciate what you do.

I know that is what made me think they were a step above Regal Vistas at Massanutten which I recall asking you to strip the beds. I think the Hyatt at the Welk also asked us to strip the beds. It was a bit "non-premium". The rest of it was pretty nice though.

Last week:

Good Evening Family. We hope you have had a wonderful vacation at your home away from home, Marriott's Mountainside! [...]

In an effort to assist our housekeeping team, may we ask you to please place the "We've checked out tag" on your villa door, run the dishwasher, take out the trash, and place all linens in the entry way.[?] This is not mandatory but is appreciated in preparing for our next arrival. We hope you enjoyed your vacation and we look forward to seeing you at Marriott's Mountainside again soon!

When we first bought a long time ago, I remember we were asked to strip beds before checkout along with running dishwasher. There also used to be a villa inventory sheet in the kitchen. At some point the request disappeared. We continued to do it for awhile though.

It’s like everything else where the consumer is asked to do more and more of a company’s work. I love it at the Walmart self checkout when the display asks for a rating. I always think that I did an excellent job!

I have always wondered if they change ALL the bed toppings or just the sheets and pillowcases.

If I'm stripping the bed, I'm removing EVERYTHING. And if others are like me, I wonder how long this policy will last.

I'll add that I too am excellent at self-checkout. A bit slow, but quite thorough.

Ha. Self checkout is a breeze for former cashiers. My first job in high school was at Builder's Emporium (like Home Depot). For EVERY item you had to press minimum 15 keys: 2 digit Department + DEPT button (3), 6 digit sku + SKU button (7), quantity +QTY button (=>2), price + PRI button (=>2), ENTER.

Customer walks up with a big bag of mixed PVC sprinkler parts, it is on. (But we knew 90% of those SKUs by heart, along with most lumber and concrete SKUs.)

Scanning is a piece of cake.

I wonder when this started. I stayed at Marriott Mountainside in January and MountainValley Lodge in March and was not asked to do anything before checkout.

At Grand Chateau last week there was a letter next to the bed at check in listing all my new jobs

We did not strip the bed linen in our two weeks stay’s in October 2024 or February 2025 at the Manor Club. We always fill the dishwasher with all the dishes and silverware and take out the trash.

We received this exact same message this week when we checked-out of a 1BR at Marriott Grand Chateau.
We did notice the "Its not mandatory but is appreciated".

I remember job applications requiring “10 key by touch”

One of my life skills that will never be used again. My first real job during and after college was partially data entry of medical claims - I got pretty good at it, but nothing like people that could do like 10,000 kph (keystrokes per hour).

Back to original topic...we typically pull all of that stuff anyway to make it easier for turnover, so the next guest gets into their villa a few minutes earlier. Or at least that's what we tell ourselves. It also makes sure we don't leave any random socks anywhere.

We haven't had thet specific request at MVC that that I recall but it's been a common part of many other timeshare stays. We generally do all we can to help such as picking up/emptying trash, pilling towels, loading/running DW and the like. We haven't generally stripped the beds unless asked because we wondered if having to sort the items was more difficult that them having to strip the beds. No mention of things to do for Maui. For Ko Olina they just requested to put "all linen in the hallway" but it was not mandatory.

These aren't mandatory and you won't be charged extra if you don't do them.
I have no issue with the TS requesting we do these extra courtesies (run dishwasher, take out trash, strip beds), and actually performing them when I have time. I usually like to get into the TS unit early and this just pays it forward for the next guest to potentially get in early.

While claraj said they were not asked at Mountainside, we were in March. We have always done all the other tasks, this is just about the last we can do unless they leave the vacuum outside our door morning of check out :bawl:

We have always left villas very tidy, with all rubbish disposed of, dishwasher run with all used cooking items in, used towels etc put in bath/shower… and we are very happy to do so.
Stripping beds though is not something we are willing to do, that would be just a step too far and frankly unacceptable for any accommodation we book, let alone an MVC resort.
This isn’t a late April Fool’s joke is it?

Us too.

They ask us to strip the bed and put the dishes in the dish washer. Dish washer is fine and we always tidy. But the bed stripping is a no go.
This was at the Grand Vista in the Orlando area just last week. It is not our responsibility to do their work for them.

I'm not stripping beds!
Years ago we were asked to do that, then the resort realized it made more work because some people also removed the mattress cover that was difficult to put back on.

I'm not trying g to start anything.
But if your doing part of their job will your housekeeping fees go down ??.
I understand they want a fast turn over, but the management needs to talk to the staff or hire more people.
