We are chairmanship climb level in Mvci. Just attended a presentation and we were offered 1000 points for 13,000$. Trying to decide if we need it in order to visit any of the new vacation clubs coming in the future. Have resisted but now reconsidering. We own 6 weeks and use some, rent some, trade etc. have been doing this for many years but the push was for our children in the future.
Any suggestions? Have been very happy with our resorts and have traveled quite a bit over the years. Now thinking maybe we should do this so .....

The general consensus here is that you will not have any problem gaining access to the new resorts with your Legacy points, even though the sales reps would like you to believe that you need their magical Trust points to get at them. Don't believe it. Keep your money in your pocket. If there comes a time that you actually need the points, you can always buy them then.

It sounds like your timeshares are working well for you. If it's not broke, don't fix it.

Don't worry about passing your portfolio to your kids just yet. They may or may not want them at that distant time, and besides, Marriott is going to change the way the the Destination Club operates between now and then.

Thanks as I was thinking that this was the same old scary tactic used in presentations but wondering if anyone has been able to trade to a new resort with vac pts without having purchased points?

Very definitely yes. Although they are old stye Interval trades for weeks -- not points.

the smart move

In my opinion, the smart marketing move would have been offering us legacy peeps a very small number of points for "cheap" when the program first debuted.

We would have quickly realized we couldn't do anything with 200 points and that would have "forced" us week owners to convert every year to points so we have enough points to actually do something with.
The result would have been Marriott would have quickly moved most of us to their new system.

It's too late to do that now. We know we really don't "need" points every year.

We may "need" points every year in the future, but I think that will be a long time down the road.

Yes, TUGgers have been able since the DC inception to use Points from enrolled Weeks at the resorts which have had intervals conveyed to the Trust. Most DC Points reservation confirmations indicate that the intervals are pulled from the DC Exchange Company but there's no doubt that some originate as Trust intervals.
