Hi - 
When we went last May, I received a pre-arrival email about a month before. The message had a place for room requests. This was the woman who responded: jessica.a.peterson@marriotthotels.com, but the signature was Mariana Eduwardo. In addition, this email was in the footer of the response: aruba.vacationplanning@vacationclub.com.
I am not sure if these emails are still valid but I thought I would pass them along.

I was just at the Surf Club in September and I called and made a request with the front desk about a week before. If you call, they you get a general line for both resorts, just ask for the Surf Club front desk?
As and FYI, I stayed in a ocean view room that looked across the pool with a direct ocean view between the two buildings and it was beautiful day and night. At night you could see the grounds and pool all lit up and during the day a great view of the ocean.
