As a result of the increased junk fee charge for Destinations Club resales, I decided to call Marriott and ask some questions about resales in Aruba. I was told that Aruba resale weeks can still be bought and ADDED to destinations program account. I was advised that this is the only location which can still be bought resale and added to Destinations Program. As I love Aruba, perhaps my solution will be to find a cheap resale and add it to my Destinations portfolio rather than find cheap Destinations points with the junk fees. Thoughts from those more experienced here?

That info is contra to what folks here have shared, and also contra to the Points FAQ Sticky. Did they mention you would also have to purchase points in order for the Aruba resale to be enrolled in the DC? Did they also mention that you would have to purchase the points and Aruba week from MVC?

I told them that I was already enrolled in DC and had points. I do not know whether this would only apply to resales purchased through them but will try to confirm

Here on TUG "resales" pretty much mean the external markets but Marriott reps hear the word and automatically think "internal Marriott Resales Operations." Whether it's deliberate or they simply don't think at all about external resales, guaranteed they'll confirm for you that an external resale Week purchased today is not eligible for enrollment.

That still doesn't fully explain a few things you were told, though - Aruba Weeks are not the "only location" at which internal resales can be purchased; and, as Fasttr said, all internal resale Weeks can be enrolled but only if a DC Points purchase is also made within twelve months of the Week purchase.

Having spoken further with the Marriott rep, she advised that Aruba resales purchased through Marriott can be deposited into an existing DC account with no additional fees incurred. She said this 'with 100% certainty' and it is recent that this action has been taken, again only applicable to Aruba resales. She advised that no additional DC points would need to be purchased as part of the enrollment.

I agree with you that on reflection, she most certainly would only have thought about the resale market through Marriott but I asked her about a non Marriott brokered resale just in case.

So this would make the total cost of the week equal to $10.39 per point. Obviously much higher than just buying resale DC points but you do get a week ownership rather than just a points owner with the option to use either booking arrangement of DC or week.

Interesting- until I believe last December the Aruba weeks were the only weeks which could be bought resale through Marriott and added to the DC, but they had discontinued that. I am not surprised that they added the option back, though.

Aruba weeks are not part of the trust, and are one of the few locations that cannot be added. I guess the change is designed to attract the many people who want to frequently come to Aruba. Since they changed their policy, I wonder if it will affect ROFR there.

This was my understanding. Back when MVCI was still selling weeks in Aruba, even after 6/20/10, those weeks could be enrolled in DC. Though these were essentially developer purchased weeks. They are now selling points in Aruba.
