Aruba Surf Club questions

Our family will be going to the Aruba Surf Club the end of November. I've been doing some research and am finding that the beach at the Surf Club may not be so nice. There are reports of cloudy water and a smelly atmosphere. A bummer because I was looking forward to a beautiful beach. Any comments? Is this typical?
 
The beach was fine when we went in May, however the sand was very hard (we wore swim shoes, and my feet were very smooth after a couple of days of walking on the sand). The Baby Beach is the nicest, a definate must do.
 
Baby Beach is at the opposite end of the island. Its a great day trip about 30-40 minutes from the Surf club. Take the main rd, 1A/1B I think it was called, all the way to the end and follow the signs.
 
I was down at Surf Club in July. The beach in front of the Surf Club was fine. NO smell and water not cloudy. It is true that it is a little sandy/pebble underfoot as you enter for about 20 or so feet. It then has a nice sandy bottom and clear. There was no palapa issue even though the resort was crowded. Poolside the usual....people save the chairs early in the AM. Plenty of bimi-chairs (canvass top) finding shade not a problem. Quite windy as discussed in newsletter at poolside. Lazy River pumps were being repaired. Surf Club is a great resort and you will enjoy your stay.

You should not have a problem in November. Last September was great as well. Baby Beach is an all day outing. Can be done in 1/2 day but you want to enjoy the time. I also like Eagle Beach down by the low rise hotels.

The posts you read were due to seaweed being swept into the area as remnants of the September storms. From what I understand it is an occasional problem that the resorts have to deal with, and from time to time different resorts have had to deal with the problem by using large equipment to actually remove it.

This is atypical so you should relax and look forward to enjoying a great week!
 
I was at Marriott Surf Club, Sept 19-26 and the beach was nasty. The winds were blowing the wrong way in there was alot of seaweed on the bottom of the beach. on my last day, Marriott ha dbrought on bulldozers to clean it up. The smell was unbearable. Hopefully by now, it's cleaned up. Baby beach was wonderful, along with other local beaches.

Explore the island and have fun. Don't judge the island based on the Surf Club beach.
 
There are a lot of beaches and plenty of room on them. Just drive on the road along the water. It's very difficult to get lost there so it is a fun to just poke around with a car.
 
It was fine in July, but I've heard bad things lately.
 
I was just in aruba for the 2nd time in the last few years and their has always been a little bit of smell, I believe it is Sulfur?? Overall, it is much worse if the seaweed is around.

If you are worried about the mushy sand in the water, you can move down towards the holiday inn. We did that a few times and the ground is more solid. Overall, the water is gorgeous and you will have a great time.
