We will be going to the resort end of July (which will probably be more crowded than our usualy May stay). How is the beach and the ocean bottom at the Surf now? I assume all the dredging is done and the beach has had almost a year to settle. Is the bottom of the ocean good without water shoes yet?

Also just checking to see if the Lazy River is still working well. Have read some posts saying there were problems. Someone also mentioned restriction on floats? We usually but the cheap ones at Target...that size still okay?

Is the Casino entrance open by Marriot? When we were in Aruba in January the area was still closed and being renovated.

We love Aruba so just being there will be great. I uderstand many may feel the beach area is crowded and it is for Aruba; however, if you went to a beach in Italy, France, Israel or the East Coast of the States you would be sitting on top of the next person too.

Thank You

Hello Sue

I was at the Surf Club June 15-22. I can tell you that the Lazy River has a very slight current. My understanding is that some of the pumps have to be repaired. As of about a month ago they had not been. I would suggest that you buy your inflatable tubes, rafts etc. before you go down. There is an air pump/hose hanging at the towel hut. If you are looking to get a good pool location do so by 7:30. I did not use the palapas but in the afternoon there were many empty. The beach was fine...a little stoney or coarse material under foot as you enter but once your 20-30 foot in there is a sandy bottom. Water condition was clear. Casino entrance is open. I had a great time in Aruba but should have listen to my wife (lol). I got a case of sun poisoning. Use sun screen! Enjoy your week.

I just returned from a wonderful week at the Surf Club. As the poster before me mention if you want a good location around the pool be down by 7:30am is correct. I would go down between 6:30 and 6:45 in order to make sure I received an umbrella. One tip if you do go down before 7:30am to pick your spot out you need to stay with your chairs until 7:30 or one of the Surf Club employees will remove your towels from the chairs. Once 7:30 hits you can leave your chairs without having the SC employee remove your items. I saw the employees going around the pool deck and they were removing towels from chairs before 7:30am.

The lazy river had a nice current but at times we felt like we weren't moving hardly at all. The tubes are suppose to be no larger than 36 inches, but I saw several larger, they don't really keep an eye on things the way they should. Everyone staying at the SC is suppose to wear a waist band, but when we checked in they were out of adult size bands so we didn't wear any the whole week. My boys was only asked once if they were staying at the SC and had to show them their room key. This happen once out of 7 days.

Didn't really use the beach so can't comment.

Have a great trip, we sure did.

Jean

Thanks MAKAI GUY for the tip!

Thank you for the responses. We do bring our own rafts with us and hope that they make whatever repairs they need to to the pool. Last year it flowed wonderfully.

We tend to do the morning at the pool and the afternoon on the beach. Glad to hear that the beach area has gotten better. They were still dredging the ocean floor and walls last year when we were there.
