So, maybe in an apocalypse it would be better to stock up on malt and yeast. Or hard liquor.

Everclear is the winner, imo. It can be mixed with about anything and will always provide the buzz. It can also be used to sterilize items or wounds in an emergency. It can be used to make tinctures and RSO. It can be made into a deodorant. It can be used as an insecticide. It will burn in a lamp or stove. Everclear is very versatile.

That's a great idea !!! Plus it is easy to make and stores very well.

In high school I did an experiment and made a small amount of distilled alcohol. Purely a scientific experiment. But because retaining the alcohol could be considered to be illegal by the BATF, I disposed of it in a timely manner. Some buddies who were also concerned of the legality of it helped me get rid of it.

;):banana::)

(BTW, Making 70 proof alcohol is easy (even a high school student can do it) and involves only a single distillation but making 180 proof everclear is a bit more involved. I'm getting too old for that sort of stuff.)

When I bought our Everclear we were in Oregon visiting family. It may have been legal in Washington but it wasn't sale anywhere we looked. Half gallons were under $20 so it did qualify as cheap, imo. Some one gave me the recipe to Peach Brandy and all it is is peach syrup and everclear for the most part. It takes a persons breath away,lol. Not my go to.

I read things about what a person should have in barter currency in a major catastrophe. US dollars might be worth nothing.
Humm…almost three years ago to date wasn’t toilet paper a highly valued commodity?
