Are the Royals on track with the in-room WiFi addition?

I read a while ago that the Royals in Cancun (or perhaps it was just the Royal Sands?) were adding WiFi to all of the rooms and that this was scheduled to be completed by the end of April. Does anyone know if they are still on track to get this done? Or does anyone know how I would find that out?

Thanks!
BArbara

I am sitting on the balcony of the Sands right now

The connection is ok, but not great. Tried Skype last night and it didn't realy work. (We used it at the Haciendas last October with no problems, so it is obvious the Sands is not up to par yet).

Hopefully it will be done soon!

Michelle

Hi Michelle,

Is there any indication that they are working on it?

Thanks!
Barbara

Hi Barbara,

It is hard to tell. I don't see anything, but that doesn't mean anything. I will ask my concierge tomorrow if I run into him. If not, I will try to find out before we leave on May 1.

Hey Michelle,
I hope you enjoy your vacation:D
Let us know what you find out about the wireless. Btw how's the beach holding up?

Hey Mike. The beach is great! HUGE still! The wall to the actual water is a bit intimidating, as it is over 7 feet tall, but you can get down there. LOTS of large conch shells to be found near the water. I found 2 neat ones yesterday, and lots of people had them. They had added so many more palapas as well. I guess the weather was not good last week, but this week, I have no complaints. It has been in the mid 80s, sunny, blue skies. In other words, normal beautiful April weather! :)

I will let everyone know when I find out about the wi fi.

Do you have to get out there at the crack of dawn to find the conch shells? Or at low tide? (Is low tide at the crack of dawn?)

No, you can find them any time of the day. There are so many of them, if you just walk to the water you can see them near the wall in some places. Water was so calm today the flags were GREEN! Yes, Green! I have never seen the flags green at the Sands, since 2000! We had a little rain, but very little, nothing that ruined the day.

Having a great time!

I don't recall EVER seeing green flags!

I'm at the Mayan now. I can get wireless access from my terrace overlooking the pool, but during peak hours it is very slow. According to Joanna, in the "Ask Joanna" column of www.royalresortsnews.com the project to add wireless to the villas is now targeted for June. She said the wiring has been completed, but they will be testing throughout May. It's a disappointment, as I will be at the Islander the first two weeks of May and I was hoping it would be done.

The beach is amazing! Lovely, soft sand like we had here before Wilma. They added a third row of palapas, and spread them out so that there is plenty of space between them. The Mayan only seems to be half occupied. You can go down to the beach late morning and still find plenty of empty palapas. The pool loungers don't fill up until mid-morning, either. Some rain this week - it poured yesterday afternoon and evening, but this morning is gorgeous!

Off to the Haciendas next week, then on to the Islander. I'll answer any questions if I can get a decent connection. At least I know it will be good at the Haciendas!

It seems like Joanna on that site is answering a question about the Royal Islander. Does anyone know whom I could contact to find out about the Royal Sands' timeframe for wireless?

Barbara

Stayed at the Sands last week and they where not done yet. The Royal Caribbean IS DONE :cheer: and has wi fi in all the rooms. Just make sure you ask for the access code at check in as it changes each week.

Royal WIFI

Thanks all for the good news. I'm a week 21/22 Royal owner. I have allowed myself to purchase many timeshares because of my Royal expierence. My list of timeshare ownerships, under my name, has to be renewed. I have bought others hoping to equal my Royal experience. No such luck. There is no equal. The only dissapointment I have with the Royals is my having to sit in the lobby of the Carribean to keep up with my obsession. I will be keeping my fingers crossed that they have everything in ship shape before week 21. Thank you Royal Resorts.
No spell check. Sorry, Lloyd

In one of the above posts, I made a comment that I would like to clarify. Under my name, the list of ownership, should not include, the Pelican, Reef or Kona Coast. I got rid of these for different reasons. But number one was because of comparisons to the Royals. The only reason I seen this thread was because I was going to ask my TUG friends for help with my most recent experience. I hope this request for advice is ethical and allowed. If this post is eddited. Please allow as much as is legal to go onward. Here goes------
In late 2008 I purchased an ownership in Cabo because it is allot closer to home, easier to get to, and other reasons too numerous to list. LEGAL???---
I purchased into the UVC/Villa del Arco plan. We have visited the resorts in this plan as many times as we have had time to. We have had some great times and the resorts are top of the line or equal to the Royals.
My problem maybe in not taking the time to learn how to deal with this different plan for them to keep their sales promises or they just don't care to fulfull those promises. My new ownership is flex ownership and all the others are fixed. That and my age might be the problem. Plese HELP!
Thanks, Lloyd PS How do you spell check?

Lloyd,

Your post about Cabo is unlikely to get responses here, under a thread about wireless at the Royals.

I suggest you start a new thread, and retype or copy and paste your post there instead.

I don't know about spell check; it depends on your operating system. It seems to happen automatically on my Mac. You could do your typing on a word processor first, do spelling corrections there, and then copy/paste into your TUG post. Don't worry about it - your spelling's not bad, and we aren't judging here!

Oh this is great news, I'll be there in Sept. It's free Wifi right?

Joanna has recently answered the same question specific to the Royal Sands. She said that the Sands won't be finished until July :(
We'll be there near the end of June, I'm hoping our building will be active by then

Remember the days when we went on vacation to GET AWAY from computers and phones and interruptions? Now we want to know which is better, Skype, MagicJack, or international cell plans? How can we connect, is it wireless, fast, and free? We sit by the pool and Skype and type and mouse. I'm guilty too - I just can't break free for a week or so - but I wish I could!

Thank you for your reply to my post about Royal/Cabo Reort comparison. I sent two emails. The first one was a reply about Royal WiFi. The second one was allowing my aligator mouth to overload my brain. I will try to place my question in a correct thread.
I was discribed in your last post. I'm computer illiterate but still waste far more time on mine than I should. I know of some of the solutions that you offered to help me with but too busy or is it lazy to take that much time. I try to look into this web site as often as time allows and I know that you are also a big time Royal fan. I look forward to seeing your posts as well as some other idividuals. sp? haha After I got to just about this point, It dawned that I should have written to you in a one person email. Thanks again, Lloyd PS -- I vote for Skype. Magic Jack is a pain

Can you tell me what the happy hour beer and Margarita prices are at the Mayan? If they get too out of line we'll have to stock up at Walmart.

We'll be there Saturday

Good point! I just posted another msg regarding a resort in California we'll be at this summer. Since I found out it's during my son's college registration we'll need WiFi to get his classes. What happen to the days of just making sure we had enough suntan lotion!
