Are Presidential Units worth the extra points?

We currently have a 2 bedroom presidential unit booked at Club Wyndham La Cascade…- 123k points is a big difference compared to deluxe. To be honest we have only stayed at a BC presidential unit once and the points difference wasn’t that drastic and to be honest I didn’t really find any big difference with the unit itself.

What am I missing?

I've never stayed in a Presidential unit at that resort, but in my opinion, Presidential units are not worth the steep increase in points.

I've stayed in Presidential units at BC, PCB, La Belle Maison, Clearwater Beach, Mountain Vista and to me you are better off staying in a Deluxe and saving points. Some of these units I got upgraded into, so it didn't cost me extra.

I have statyed in a 2BR Deluxe at La Cascada and they are fine rooms.

We like the presidential units and book them, if available. At BC, it guarantees you’re at least on the 8th floor or higher and PR’s are 16 or higher. We like the higher floors to minimize noise from the pools and other outdoor activities. We also appreciate the upgrades in furnishings and decor. For the trips we take every year, we have plenty of points to justify the higher costs. It just depends on what your priorities are and your points budget as to whether it’s worth it to you and your family.

One other thing to consider, at some resorts, you have to book a presidential unit to get the largest room type at that resort.

For instance, Clearwater Beach and Branson Meadows and Mountain Vista, the only 4BR units are Presidential, same at Old Town Alexandria and Panama City Beach for 3BR units, there are no Deluxe equivalent of the 3BR units there.

So if you have to have a 4BR unit or 3BR unit at some resorts, you have to go Presidential. In some cases its cheaper to book 2 Deluxe units but having everyone in one units sometimes is preferable.

There are 12 2BR Presidential units here. All of the Presidential units at La Cascada have better views or other features. All the 2 BR have either pool views or river views.

Ask for units either X16 which is the riverview units, where X is floor s 2 to 5. Or get X08 or X07 units where X is on either floors 7, 8 or 9. The higher the better. Try not to get 607 or 608. These have very larger patios, but are obstructed views and frankly I don't like that someone can look down from the pool deck into your balcony and unit.

I never book Presidential units. I happily accept upgrades to Presidential units.

Same here - I’ve received automatic or instant suite upgrades to PR or Presidential units - but IIRC I’ve never booked one outright. Every now and again when looking for inventory for a particular date range I will see an upgrade path like from a two bedroom deluxe to a three or four bedroom Presidential or PR unit and then I will book the two bedroom right away and take the instant upgrade. It’s rare these days but it does happen on occasion.

It depends on the resort and your standards. I never book them, but I do get upgrades to them. Some of them I go wow and some I say I made the right decision not booking them.

I've booked a few directly---usually because I wanted to guarantee a specific bedding situation. For example, at Smuggs I seem to recall that all the non-Presidential 3-BR units have at least one bedroom with pairs-of-twins and/or bunk beds instead of all doubles-or-larger, but the Presidentials don't have any twins/bunks.

I’ve been upgraded to a 4 bedroom Presidential at Bonnett Creek and I appreciated the difference. I booked a 2 bedroom Presidential at Grand Desert and was not impressed. I asked to get upgraded to a 3 bedroom deluxe and was much happier. The 3 bedroom was actually more points to begin with.

I like Presidential units if the difference between Deluxe and Presidential is size, location, or view. I don't care very much about stainless steel kitchen appliances, upgraded kitchen and bath fixtures and countertops, or upgraded bath amenities (before the trend to bulk products).

Yeah that’s the thing we aren’t eligible for upgrades and like @chapjim we are more about extra space. It’s the biggest unit they have available when waitlist came through.

Definitely agreee with the thoughts that it depends on the resort.

I've said a deluxe unit at Bonnet Creek is 'good enough' for me, they are so nice. And then we got upgraded to a presidential and boy are they nice! At Bonnet Creek, I'll pay extra for a presidential now (usually).

At Newport Onshore we had a 2 bedroom deluxe. It had THREE balconies - kitchen, living area, and master bedroom. Multiple times I said I felt like I was in a presidential unit (it was huge).

Nice to have this board to bounce places off of for an opinion specific to a resort!

I believe it's subjective to what you're looking for. I can tell you from what I've seen we prefer them as we seek out the higher end accomodations. The 4br unit as Glacier Canyon was really nice compared the standard rooms and 1000% nicer than the 2br you can book online at Glacier Canyon.

YES! It is worth it at Desert Blue in Las Vegas and Clearwater Beach in Florida. So if you have some extra points.....why not?

We've stayed at La Cascada three times and never been unhappy with our deluxe unit.

Is it a one time fun thing you want to do with points you aren't sure you'll easily use otherwise?

We had a visitor on our balcony.
